I used to watch and enjoy "The Chris Rose Show" online with interesting guests, places, and stories in and around The French Quarter. A pleasing edge to his delivery. He also wrote a widely acclaimed book recanting the Katrina story called "1 Dead in Attic: After Katrina". Seems like he's ducked into obscurity lately. What's the latest on him?

Shame that a person who represents the quintessential New Orleans eclectic character gets the shaft from both The Picayune and Fox. I really liked his style.

Emerson wrote about him a long time ago: “For nonconformity the world whips you with its displeasure.”

I see him from time to time doing walking tours of the French Quarter. I wish he had taken my advice ten years ago when I last spoke to him. He often has a cup of beer in his hands.

I used to love Chris Rose columns when I lived in New Orleans before Katrina. He was truly gifted and hilarious. Read the story he wrote about what happened to him after Katrina. Someone linked it up above. Very sad & mostly self inflicted.

I just happened to like him on FB & on there he promotes some type of tour he hosts in the Quarter now. His Trump Derangement Syndrome is truly off the charts. When he is not promoting his tour he is railing against Trump & anyone who supports him. He fights with people nonstop on FB. He really does have mental problems.

Was going to post this. His TDS is truly remarkable for how advanced it is. I get some people don't like Trump and that's fine, but the degree to which he takes it, is insane.

He's still a hell of a writer. A couple of months ago he wrote about finding Mr. Bingle in a storage lot in City Park, and I think I laughed for 15 straight minutes. Unfortunately, he can't stop bashing Trump (and all of Trump supporters) long enough to actually write good pieces like that, very often.

I'm not even much of a fan of Trump myself, and I can't stand the constantly TDS from him. It is extremely rare for me to not patronize a business because of the owner's political beliefs, and I would really like to attend one of his music history tours... but there is no chance I would ever give him a dollar of my money.

According to Rose, he also got yanked around by Oprah. He wrote a TP column about how he was booked for her show, then just before air time he was told he couldn't mention his own Katrina book.
Maybe some of the scenes he wrote about didn't jibe with her version of the Dome evacuees? Or gun control?

His article about Oprah is no longer linked on the Times Pic archive, this blogger has a synopsis with excerpts from Rose's original piece.
Chris Rose Oprah story

In the weeks after Katrina, Rose really did a balls-to-the-walls, eyes-wide-open, job of describing the chaos of a collapsed civilization from the belly of the beast.
Deserves a level of respect beyond the average journalist. The One Dead in Attic book is also well-worth reading if you want a whiff of how fast things can go downhill without electricity and law enforcement around.
