This isn't even close to true.

Chicago to NOLA? That's 8+ via Amtrak

That's like going from Paris to Rome... the high speed train option is over 11 hours.

Less corruption. This is actually one thing that can help with housing issues. Spread us out and give us an option to get to work in a timely manner

If some airlines went out of business, or stopped flying to smaller cities, trains might be needed. How long would it take for the trains to be like the airlines, where you feel like cattle. They would probably have to cram as many people in as possible from day one, to offset their startup costs.

Paris to Berlin is around 8.5 hours.

Go back in time and put rail lines in along with the interstate when Eisenhower built it in the fifties.

And then put tolls on those Interstates.

Yeah that’s why European immigrants keep coming here. Cause Europe is so much better.

Demographics play a role in transportation in the US.

Commercial air travel used to be the province of certain folks, it is no longer.

Private aviation has grown as a result of this evolution.

You have this backwards.

For effective train travel, you need super-congregation in populated areas and emptiness between them (so trains go vroom there)

There's probably a market to connect regional airports to major hubs (like Tuscaloosa-Birmingham to Atlanta) but not much else.

Europeans like to act like it doesn't take 10+ hours to get to get from Paris to Berlin by train when in reality that's just NYC to Cleveland

Nobody travels between Nola and Chicago other than for vacation or business and most of those people fly.

For one thing, getting people to WORK for Amtrak has become increasingly difficult.

Amtrak has stopped its service in the Pacific NW bc they say they can’t staff the trains or find enough people to maintain them

American’s love freedom and the convenience of having their own car. Rail will never be a serious option in my opinion. People are going to drive if it’s less than 8 hours and if more they’ll fly. Business people can’t afford the time and will fly if it’s more than 4-5 hours to drive. Trains need to move freight.

The part about Chicago to New Orleans is also very misleading.
He did say 8+ hours true enough. Better add a lot of hours to that 8.
IF it's on schedule, and that's a big if, you're looking at more like 20 hrs.
Shameful that as technically advanced we are supposed to be that we can't do better than that.

A higher population density. There are popular train lines in the United States believe it or not. The only one that is profitable is under 300 miles and will take you through Boston, Connecticut, NYC, New Jersey, Philly, Baltimore, and DC (a corridor with over 35 million people). If the rest of the country was that dense you would almost need trains as driving down highways would take forever.
