The coyotes is our neighborhood take care of most of the outside cats. I approve of this too. I'd rather the coyotes

Cats are the most successful predators on the planet. 95% success rate.

There was a tv series on history channel that was all about what would happen in 100 years after humans disappeared today.

I can't remember the name.

It was on the Discovery Channel and called Life After People. It also went well beyond 100 years, several thousand years into the future.

The one scene I remember is actually about cats.

150 years after people

The descendants of house cats now live in the vertical ecosystems that have formed in abandoned skyscrapers. Cats have become the apex predators of the skyscrapers, living on mice and birds. These cats have never touched the ground; they find all they need to survive in the gutted skyscrapers where they spend their entire lives. Because they spend all their time above ground some cats evolve into flying cats, being able to glide like flying squirrels.

There's a cat in my neighborhood who, I'm pretty sure, lives off of birds and lizards. Cat would be fine.

They showed cats living in high rise buildings, eventually growing wing flaps and gliding around like flying squirrels. I don't know how true that would be, but it was certainly interesting.

Most of them die from starvation because when the rapture happens our doors/windows won’t be open.

Nope. Coyotes would keep cats in check. They love to eat pussies.

That's absurd. No humans + no water in high rises.

Cats would do fine. They would be the top predator in many places. They are more adept at hunting than dogs.

We have a camp house on the river that is usually visited a couple hours a week and currently have a camp cat that is the third or so generation of the original we took there. He's been alive for probably six years now and has battled every coon, opposum, dog, and cat in the area, with the scars to show for. He's literally a beast now. Almost looks like the tougher living has bulked up his muscular system, and looks like he definitely eats enough on his own. Friendly when people are around too.

So cats would be fine.

cats would be a super predator without humans. the greatest threat to the cat population would be other cats. (think hillary in this sentence)

My cat is hunting in my yard right now, he left a bunny head on the porch a few weeks ago and got a squirrel a few weeks before that. He gets field mice daily. Pretty sure he'd survive.

Cats breeding unchecked would ravage the bird population. They already kill some crazy number of birds every year, like 50 million.

The cat population would probably explode initially till larger predators increased their numbers to keep them in check

Seriously, though, cats would be fine. Some would be eaten by coyotes, some would starve, but they reproduce so fast it wouldn’t matter. With all the leftover buildings they’d have plenty of places to climb and hide for safety.

Also I’m pretty sure housecats haven’t been domesticated for nearly as long as dogs, so they probably still have more natural instincts. Hell they basically do wtf they want now.

Humans keep coyotes in check now. It’s the coyote population that would explode if humans suddenly vanished.

Cats will eat dead human owner bodies as soon as they begin to get hungry. Dogs will starve before they do that.

My money is on cats. I see enough stray cats surviving to know they have what it takes....

Except the fat domestics. They are Fugged
