What would happen to the domestic cat population if humans suddenly vanished?

Dogs would eventually breed themselves into a single breed known as the ‘pariah dog’.
Would cats do the same or would they get wiped out by other predators? Or would the larger ones continue to survive and morph into something like a bobcat?

There are a bunch of wild cats around me due to people just dropping them off.
Cats will adopt. The ones here have.

NOLA had a big feral cat problem in the wake of Katrina if that tells you anything.

There was a tv series on history channel that was all about what would happen in 100 years after humans disappeared today.
I can't remember the name.

Cats would be fine. There are tons of feral cats. They'd certainly last longer than small dogs. Cats can climb trees pretty well and have night vision.

>90% of dogs would be dead and gone within a few weeks
cat population would increase exponentially

Cats will fare better than dogs

Because all the do good hipsters came in and rescued all the dogs. Had a raccoon and opossum as well as many other critters dogs would taken care of problem.

Combination of factors: locked in a house or a fenced yard, and breeds that aren’t fit to survive in the wild.
Cats locked in a house, screwed. Other factors don’t apply.

I don't think that would be much of a barrier for most breeds. Dogs can dig. I had a pug growing up, and even it could dig under the fence and squeeze her way out.

If the cats aren't declawed they'd do alright because they can fend for themselves and they breed like rabbits almost.
5 a litter twice a year (or maybe 3 in two years) easy if uncontrolled

There’s nothing I like more on the history channel then shows about the future

They showed cats living in high rise buildings, eventually growing wing flaps and gliding around like flying squirrels. I don't know how true that would be, but it was certainly interesting.

Certainly not within 100 years.

Cats would be fine. They'd flourish.

also, more dogs get spayed/neutered than cats.
that’s gonna hurt their numbers
my dog (lab catahoula mix) would be fine as long as there was animals smaller than him still around.
he’s caught and killed damn near everything in my yard squirrels, snakes, birds, a coon
