Didnt we almost make alligators an endangered at one point?
They may have been threatened, but there are several species of crocodilians. We'd have to consciously go to war with the species to wipe them all out.

I have heard salties are relatively good predators on land but not so much for the other crocs.
They are all deceptively fast on land, but their stealth in the water is obviously what makes them successful predators. Since there will never be a shortage of animals that need water to live, they'll always have prey showing up at their doorstep.

Point is, they would not be helpless or vulnerable on land, enabling them to migrate pretty freely.

I don't think there is much question the Orca is King of Salt Water. They hunt in packs similar to wolves.

There are two type of Orca pods that migrate up the wrest coast. One type mostly eat great whites. The other seals.

The brown coastal bear is a cross between Grizzky and polar bear and plenty capable.

I would still hate to be in the woods with a hungry tiger.

Salt water crocodile. 20 ft long (that's as long as a bull Great White), can swallow a full grown man in one chomp, fast as lightning, stealthy, more powerful than a lion or bear, mean as it gets, if it breathes (or did at one point) it is on the menu, kills a ton of humans every year. This is THE apex predator on this planet, land or sea (by the way, it's comfortable on both).

A full grown salty would not only kick a lion, tiger, or bears butt, it would also eat the meat, hair, bones, and guts.

I'll back you up on this one. Hyenas were out-competed by wolves in most of their territories.

Now, the canine is a small fry in Africa.

Definitely Tuna

Lions don’t even like water.
If you placed it near a river, or some sort of fresh water source, that’d make sense.
But you find yourself in the ocean, a 20 ft wave, I’m assuming its off the coast of South Africa, coming up against a full, grown, 800 lb tuna with his 20 or 30 friends.
You lose that battle. you lose that battle nine times out of ten.
And guess what, you wandered into our school, of tuna and we now have a taste of blood! We’ve talked, to ourselves. We’ve communicated and said, ‘you know what? lion tastes good. Lets go get some more lion.’
We’ve developed a system, to establish a beachhead and aggressively hunt you and your family. And we will corner your, your pride, your children, your offspring…

We will construct a series of breathing apparatus with kelp. We will be able to trap certain amounts of oxygen. Its not going to be days at a time, an hour, hour 45. No problem. That will give us enough time to figure out where you live, go back to the sea, get more oxygen and then stalk you. You just lost at your own game. You are out gunned and outmanned.

Lol... that's actually my alma mater. We had that exact pic on the front of our soccer jerseys back in the day.

...of course, every other sports Jersey had that stupid-looking statesman with the bulbous head (or the triangle). I think we got the better end of the deal.

I had to read that twice. I thought you were saying okra was the top of the food chain for a second there.

I see I was beaten to that.

You are seriously underestimating the intelligence of cats compared to canines. Cats are some of the best hunters on earth...hell the average house at is credited for killing almost 20 billion animals a year.

I am guessing mountain lions/Cougars live together and seriously doubt wolves ever try to mess with them.

cougar vs wolf IRL

I'm agreeing with you, btw, in case you don't click on the link or can't watch the video.

A wolf is only dangerous when it's with its pack. They are not the top predator.

Human's arent really earths top predator. Humans+tools are. The minute man drops his spear he is fricked.

Someone mentioned that apex hierarchy depends on the location. This is 100% correct. What makes humans "special" is that our location of superiority is just "near tools".
