Highly doubtful. As mentioned, they're largely scavengers.

Male lions have larger heads than male tigers.

I just don't agree that wolves are far superior when it comes to intelligence between cats and wolves.

Besides lions cats are generally solitary animals. Naturally solitary animals don't confront packs of animals. That is a sign of intelligence and self preservation. Lions will give up kills to hyenas simply based on numbers...that doesn't make the hyena a better predator than a lion.

There has been recent scientific publications (along with video) of Western Spotted Skunks defending and successfully chasing mountain lions away from the lion's own kill.

Amazing to see an animal that weighs less than 3 pounds backing down the western hemisphere's largest remnant feline predator.

I'll back you up on this one. Hyenas were out-competed by wolves in most of their territories.

edit: To the downvote, I'm sorry that the bone record of the past 20,000 years shows that Cheech, Cummings, and Goldberg weren't welcome in Europe and most of Asia?

There are 4 different species of hyenas, including the aardwolf. Most are predators with a high propensity to scavenge.

Just food for thought. You don't have to be the biggest to be the baddest.

Crocodilians. They are equally at home on land and in the water, live in almost every continent and are extremely tough. Nothing trifles with them when they reach full maturity and almost nothing can withstand their attack.

Reptiles would still be ruling the earth if it wasn't for a freak mass extinction event, and even the hand of man has not been able to threaten their survival, as has been the case with big cats and others.

I was wondering when somebody would bring up reptiles or avian predators.

Didnt we almost make alligators an endangered at one point?

I have heard salties are relatively good predators on land but not so much for the other crocs.

I'd go with the wolverine almost every time since wolves are much more cautious than the wolverine, and wolverines are vicious as frick.

The premise of the thread was sans humans.
It's just fun BS, there is almost no species listed here tonight that hasn't been T/E.
