If humans didn't exist.

Orka's prolly top predator in the seas, but what about on land?

Shere Khan tried some shite with the wolves, but in the end proved that the lone wolf dies while the pack survives.

I'm convinced mosquitos would dominate the land in little time.

Depends 9n the region. We are the apex predator because we are above everything on the planet. Without us there would be about 15 ties for top predator on land and 3 or 4 in the sea.

Hippos are more brutal than any of these land animals we have mentioned, but they don't eat prey.

Not really as the "Top predator". Orcas would rule the sea, while wolves would clearly run the Northern Hemisphere. The Southern Hemisphere would have a few pockets of dominant predators, but not on the same scale as the wolf or orca.
