I don't know when it started. It was already in progress when I came here in the spring of '07.

The most notable thing about the OT in those days was how many posters knew each other IRL. There were two or three dozen LSU students who posted pics of themselves, held OTGTs and discussed their personal lives in intimate detail -- providing great fodder for the OT assholes.

Eventually, these people moved on. Some continued posting -- the Droppies and especially the Tiers were attempts to maintain the "Cool Kids" status for those who stayed -- but inevitably all that faded away.

Which is why Paige is Ishi, Martha The Passenger Pigeon, The Last Of The Mohicans. She was the final LLotOT -- posting pics, detailing the most personal aspects of her life, and encouraging hardlegging (at least not overly discouraging it). When she stopped Paiging, for better or worse the old OT died.

I do think that the addition of different boards has been a positive development
The creation of more and more focused boards has been a positive for TD, in that it’s easier to navigate to topics you’d like to discuss and learn about, which draws more users and interaction to those boards and the website as a whole. It definitely negatively impacted quality of the OT, which used to be where everyone went to discuss all topics that didn’t have their own boards in those earlier years. Now that the boards have become so specialized, people interested in discussing specific topics at length and in great quality and detail take their thoughts to those boards, and the OT is left with only a couple of topics that don’t fit the mold of the other boards and people who always posted on the OT before who still come here for old time’s sake. There are still good threads on the OT, but I think that before there was just a more eclectic offering. There’s also definitely more behind the scenes admin moderating now than there used to be and less admin interaction in everyday threads. I also wonder how the demographics have changed over the years, in terms of people who started posting in college who continue to post vs. current college students vs. people who found TD by searching Google for a topic that has nothing to do with college sports.

After Alexa, everything went downhill, that and a certain TD poster who was arrested because he took things off the board and went too far. Now, too many people know each other or can figure each other out.

I'm not 100% on specifics but someone took something a bit too far in some things they said on board and someone sued them I believe.

That was a time when the Rant was exciting and funny. LSU was coming off of some bad Dinardo years and the early Saban years were such a change. The football discussions were legit. It was worth checking 4 or 5 times a day which wasn't easy pre-iphone. It was spontaneous to say the least. Nowaday's, sarcastic humor doesn't exist, the football knowledge is weak and the paid shills are ruining the Rant

It was great before A&M joined the SEC and their posters started coming over. I don't even look at the SEC rant anymore it's gotten so bad.

I joined in 2003; pre National Champions - game by game, the excitement was building. It was electric. The very next season it was becoming clear something was amiss with Coach Saban - he seemed distracted, as did the team. Then came his announcement of his plans to go NFL. It was like the air was sucked out of the entire fan base. Then came the CLM hiring. Then came the great betrayal, as Saban went to Bama. Then came the posi/nega Tigers wars. And so it has gone. Far less fun than it once was.

Tell me how I make this board worse? I am not saying I make it better, I am just another poster. IMO, what actually makes this site as good as it is, is that there is a lot of activity.
