Napster circa 2000.

Classic mislabeled P2P file!
A TD poster’s brother was in that band (the one mislabeled Phish).
I can’t remember the poster or name of the band, though.

Younger baws will just never appreciate what it was like to go off to college and gain access to a T1 line right as Napster was coming into maturity. It was just paradigm shift after paradigm shift from the mid 90s to early 00s.
I continue to believe those of us who were more or less on both sides of the internet should be considered a separate generation

not sure you understand what OG means... Kazaa was later in the revolution.
By "OG P2P era" I mean the wave of all-in-one P2P apps released around the turn of the millennium. WinMX was released December 2000. Kazaa was released in March 2001. Wikipedia says the OG Napster peaked in userbase in February 2001. Napster shut down its network in July 2001. So how is Kazaa not part of the OG P2P era if it was released during the peak of Napster?

I've already dropped all my streaming services and built a NAS to host my media in my house for about the same price as what you'd pay over a year for multiple services.
I run qBittorrent through my VPN and use multiple sites for TV/Movies and music, however I miss the old Demonoid private tracker. I haven't bothered to look for another private tracker to join.

What makes you think BitTorrent is dead?
For music Oink’s successor WhatCD was miles better than Oink ever was. And WCD’s replacement RED has continued providing an enormous library of music.
For movies the best site has in excess of 259,000 movies. Far more than Netflix, Amazon, etc combined.

Yep, and I remember living in Neilson when I was at La Tech and over the network you could access everybody’s shared files and some baws had a boatload of movies and porn and music so you could grab it right then, there wasn’t that long arse wait time as it downloaded. Kind of like a Blockbuster right there in your room.

And yeah I guess there is a big generational gap there and it makes me feel old as frick lol. My kid is in college now and he has never had anything but broadband his whole life and the internet and files were just this thing that was there, didn’t have to work for it at all.

I still will use BitTorrent but honestly almost exclusively for documentaries. There’s a place called MVGroup that is nothing but documentaries and it’s fantastic, highly recommended if y’all are looking for like BBC or PBS stuff etc.
I just checked out WhatCD and it looks like it’s nothing but a site trying to free Ross Ulbright unless I’m missing something?

I was still using a Windows 3.1 PC with 14k dialup in early 2000. My dad finally replaced it and downloading a 3 minute, 128kb mp3 on Napster "only" taking 10-15 minutes blew my mind.

Napster was great but Kazaa had porn so it wins
