When Napster was the one P2P app it was king….once multiple players got in the game nothing was as good.
However, king for MP3s was a mIRC channel with a great bot….I remember basically mining MP3s on mIRC when they first lit up the T1 at Kirby Smith…..that turned into a fairly lucrative cd gig……and by lucrative I mean it financed the drinking every weekend for a semester.

I was still using a Windows 3.1 PC with 14k dialup in early 2000.
I know that feeling, man. My parents refused to upgrade until the hard disk in our Windows 3.11-running Packard Bell failed in 2000.
Of course after all that time when we finally upgraded I ended up with a new machine with Windows Me.
Then a year later I downloaded the Windows XP DevilsOwn ISO with the FCKGW serial from an IRC bot.

A lot of people took that arse fricking…..MS has had the best OS ever built (outside of highly customized Unix/Linux builds) for a decade and they still haven’t completely overcame the ME debacle.

Napster > Kazaa > bittorrents (bittorrent > qtorrent)
I've had a VPN subscription for awhile and usually download stuff to save time/space on our DVR. Plus there are less uptight countries in the world that stream their TV live and free of you connect to a server in the country. Australian TV throws up all kinds of "parental warnings" and then it's free game on trashiness.

Youtube mp3 converter was the shite once Limewire started giving your PC Aids.
I completely forgot about this but was a game changer for me as you could put all kinds of live versions of songs from youtube on cds.

I feel like Limewire was the best or most long lived. Could be wrong.

The amount of quality content I pulled off of Demonoid was downright egregious.

Still to this day, I purchase CDs and records
There’s something satisfying about ripping your own music from CDs.

I used WinMX and FrostWire the most. Lots of music and porn on the second hard drive.

just checked out WhatCD and it looks like it’s nothing but a site trying to free Ross Ulbright unless I’m missing something?
The indication that WCD is defunct was when I said:

I still will use BitTorrent but honestly almost exclusively for documentaries. There’s a place called MVGroup that is nothing but documentaries and it’s fantastic, highly recommended if y’all are looking for like BBC or PBS stuff etc
Yep, MVGroup is awesome. For BBC or other foreign tv shows TvChaosUk (British tv only) and TheEmpire (British, Irish, Oz, Kiwi tv) are awesome. Makes it far easier tbh than dealing with having to circumvent BBC’s VPN blocking on iPlayer.

Yep I like this one as well, it’s been a while since I’ve been on it though.

I agree. Demonoid was great. Loved their logo as well...

It was Kazaa or Ares when I saw the Erin Andrews peephole video before it made the news. Some dude on another message board told me about it

Same here, good ole Packard Bell from Circuity City. 66mhz CPU, 16mb RAM, 500mb HDD. Originally had a 9k modem.
