Betsy in '65 but I don't remember it. I was 3
Camille '69 I was 7. Remember that one because my mom's side of family all lived(and still do) on MS coast-Pass Christian
My uncle was a volunteer fireman in the Pass & sent us a telegram that only said "All still alive". As soon as we could; My parents packed our station wagon with water, clothes, first aid kits, food etc.& made our way there.
I'll never forget the sights as we turned at Henderson Point & the extreme devastation scared the hell out of me! It was horrifying to a 7 year old.
To this day " all still alive" is chilling.

Andrew was the 1st ‘bad one’. Danny in’85 I think was 1st I remember.

Frederick in '79 (I was 12 and from Pensacola) is the first one I remember vividly.
Ivan in 2004 was the worst one I have ever experienced.

I remember Camille coming through during the daylight hours. Hilda and Betsy came through during the night. Watching the clouds zip through the skies at a high rate of speed was impressive.

Freshman at BRHS for Andrew. Got bored, went and played in the street, finding random things to throw up into the wind. Smartness.

Lost relatives in Cameron. Terrifying stories of babies swept away, never to be found. I woke up to our house shaking. Looked outside just in time to see the hood of our tractor ripped off. I knew at that moment.....we was in a world of trouble. About mid-morning we evacuated to a bigger neighbor's house. Then all hell broke loose.
At one point, about midday, I didn't think we'd make it through that nightmare. The wind kept lifting the house off the blocks, then slam back down. The homeowner had trees - cedar trees I recall. Shielded the house some. Stood behind my Dad, as he looked through a window. I saw some cows fly by (literally) then debris from a large barn. Dad turned around. His face was white as a sheet. He told us to get on our knees, immediately, and pray. God heard our prayer. We survived.
When severe hurricanes head my way, I evacuate. I evacuate NOW!

Andrew was the first I remember. Evacuated to Ruston and came back to a house with a missing roof and demolished back porch. I was 8.

Same. 5 years old and I remember it clearly. Lived in a craphole home in Silverhill, AL. The wind would get under the crawl space and lift the house. Peeled the roof off like a sardine can. Fled to Dad’s full size van and stayed in there. Mom crying the whole time.
I still have old pictures of the aftermath somewhere: I remember the old Robertsdale gym looked like God Himself punched his fist through it and gutted it. All the cows in various pastures were either dead or wandering wild because the fences blew away.

I was in first grade when Andrew hit. We ended up leaving school early that day when the first bands started coming in, but I didn’t realize what was going on. I thought we were going home early because it was raining.
That night my parents made me sleep in the bed with them, which was not allowed normally. I do not ever remember ever doing that except that night. I think I was finally like ok maybe this isn’t just rain?
The next day, we had the front door open and just the screen door was closed. All of the sudden the front door got sucked in and slammed shut, and then I was like holy hell, what is going on?!

Technically not a hurricane, but one of my earlier memories is tropical storm Allison absolutely dumping rain all across Louisiana and Texas.

Andrew is the first I remember being worried about.

I was 11 when Andrew hit. I remember the house phone ringing, answering it and hearing a giant crash, followed by silence on the line. We had a huge Pin Oak that fell on our neighbor's carport. Funny thing, my parents were looking to get the tree removed and the neighbors wanted to build a garage. Everyone got what they wanted.

Hurricane Eloise - September 1975
The power went off where we lived (Dothan) and surprisingly the only place that had generator backup was KFC. So we had KFC chicken and that was the first time I had it.
