What value does a graduate degree represent to you

Anyone here get a masters degree? Or if not, anyone have the opportunity and didn’t do it? Obviously different fields have different requirements. If you we’re in favor of getting one/have one how much would you be willing to spend to earn it?

debt and a lifetime in a lab or academia

I was paid well for all of my graduate degrees. If you paid for yours you were robbed

I'm in mental health, so my bachelors was basically only worth it's entry into grad school.

Depends on what it's in and where it's from. An MBA from U of Phoenix, not very valuable. A degree in analytics from Stanford, pretty damn valuable.
FYI, I have one and am probably about to get another one.

this. I was paid to get my master's...but it was at ULM, so I still feel like I overpaid

I went to grad school for a few semesters but didn't finish. I had other issues going on and lost interest. Had a few good classes though.

In my field it is of limited value.
Technical certifications in programming, networking, etc are far more valuable than a masters or doctorate. Those are mainly of use if your plan is to teach.

To me it means someone went to, and successfully completed, graduate school.
But that’s one man’s opinion.

People who don’t have a graduate degree always say it isn’t worth it

Mine was 100% paid for. Got my dream job because of it. And drank a shite ton of beer during grad school

Got a masters on the way to my PhD. Worth 6 figures a year now, but not much more than that.

My masters holds no value to me. But I also have a PhD.

I thought I waisted my time getting one up until I found the ideal job where a Masters was a prerequisite. Going to a state school instead of paying for a brand name worked well too.

Masters Degree - I was paid full-time to get my degree, and it was my "duty", so that's the only thing I did. School was also paid for. I just had to pay for my books.
PhD - I was once again paid full-time to get my PhD in 3 years, and it was my "duty". So once again, I went to school for 3 years, got paid 6 figures (school was also paid for), and had a metric shite ton of time with my family. The value I got from it can't be measured.
The value I get from it now is it opened up so many doors for when I retire from my current job, whether it be in academia (9 months of work for 130K+ ain't too shabby), industry, consulting, etc.

I have a M.S. and MBA ,I needed the M.S. to meet board certification requirements, and my B.S. alone offered limited job opportunities. I went full time, but it cost me almost nothing with the aid I got. Got the MBA part time, company I worked for paid for all of. I would not have gotten the MBA if I had to pay for it myself. The M.S. would have been worth borrowing money to get, the long term payoff was very good.

I spent a little under 20k for mine, and I was promoted to a position that I only qualified for due to the masters degree about a month after graduation. It was roughly a 17k increase, so my degree basically paid for itself in a year.
