I agree if you want to call your kid Jackson then that is fine but these bastardized spellings are what leaves me shaking my head.

WTF does it matter what someone names their kid.
Ehh...
Common names won't hold you back, even if it is Jaxon, but something really off the wall can be a hindrance down the road.

Parents that go with just the short name on the birth certificate make no sense to me. Call your kid Josh if you'd like, but put Joshua on the birth certificate.
100% agree. I have one of these names, and it's good to be able to go by my longer name in more formal settings, and go by my shorter nickname in casual settings. I would feel lame if my "real" name was my nickname.

Because it's not really a talking point. It's like saying. "Turns out Americans eat a lot of chicken nowadays...discuss"

I don't see how people can ignore this when naming their kids. People are judged by their names, it doesn't matter if you like that fact, it's a fact.

Scruffy has seen way too many Braydens, Braylens, Jaydens, Aidens, Landons, etc.
All awful names in Scruffy's opinion.

After further review, adjusting for goofy spellings, the top 20 boy's names in Louisiana for 2015 are as follows:
445 Jackson/Jaxon/Jaxson
397 Elijah/Eli
338 Aiden/Ayden
318 John/Jonathan
294 Noah
288 Jace/Jase/Jayce
278 Mason
265 Liam
230 William
227 Carter
207 Grayson/Greyson
206 James
200 Luke
196 Michael
195 Kayden/Kaiden
179 Logan
175 Jayden
174 Wyatt
173 Jacob
169 Ethan

So 6 out of the top 20 are pretty awful, but plenty of solid names throughout.

There are a shite ton of good girl names IMO, but naming a boy is another story altogether.

I think the exact opposite
If you want to call the kid Josh, name the kid Josh, not Joshua
Makes zero sense to name the kid something but call it something else IMO

Do people not use family names anymore? We were all named with family names and one close friend name. So are the entire next generation so far with one exception and she hates that she's not named after someone, plus there are a bazillion girls her age with the same name. I love that I'm named after my grandmother.

We named our son Jaxon and we love it. Most have said the same to us. I understand there are a lot of terrible names out there but I think something like which is slightly different from the norm isn't off the wall.

I agree. I think Jackson Flackson Wackson is way more professional sounding that Jaxon Flaxon Waxon.

Especially all the unfortunate Richards that didn't get the "Rich" nickname.
