Why in the world would you close the community colleges? There's no validity behind that. I can see auditing them and moving money around, but closing most of them is asinine.

Another question people don't think of is, what would the state do with all of these vacant schools? If you bought the property, you'd likely end up with something in an undesirable part of town chocked full of useless buildings. Shutting them down would save money on faculty, but you've still got all of the equipment, property costs, and maintenance that comes with a running college/university

A good one yes and their nursing program is top 10 in country to go along with their pharmacy school.

Merge La Tech and Grambling = Grambling Tech.

Just make all the schools not in the LSU or Louisiana branch private. They either learn to survive or close.

Close:
LSU Alexandria
LSU Eunice
Southern NOLA
Southern Shreveport
UNO

These should be the first round of closures that I would think most people can agree on.

The lord only knows what Louisiana would look like without ULM's vaunted construction program.

Mcneese is way more important than sowella to swla. The ptech program could be combined with the program mcneese already has and the chennault program could either become an associate degree from mcneese or go with abc school. Nursing would be wrapped into mcneese.

I agree. I have a few that I would close, but only if they had two factors, poor performance AND an alternate school within commuter distance. So you can close down a crappy school in NOLA if there's an alternative. I think it'd be tough to close schools like Nicholls and McNeese. You can't just say those kids can go to ULL. That's not a possible commute and many cant make a full time move to a campus. We have several options if you follow the poor performance and alternative school available approach. Problem is a lot of the options are the HBCU's.

You guys said this about the nursing program last time but could only provide a link to some obscure website that no one has ever heard of

Poor performance, yes, but why should everyone live within commuting distance of another school? Why is it that our state is the only one who's citizens demand such an idiotic premise?

Everyone says this about their school. Every school in this state has one program that is SO DAMN AMAZING that it would be a disservice to humanity as a whole if it was simply run by a consolidated university system

So basically anything not 1st tier or ULL should be closed.

This mentality is what will cause more damage than the budget crisis. Basically your saying only the top tier should go to school.

Harder does not necessarily translate to a better workforce. Most jobs, even professionals, don't require the majority of the knowledge your taught in class much less the rigor of it.

There should be, AT THE MOST, 4, maybe 5, 4 year universities in this state.

The others should be either 2 year programs or not exist at all.

Basically, I'm saying that we need to alter this mentality that everyone needs to go to college. A good way to fix that is to get rid of these wastes of public funding.

Most jobs don't require a college education. That needs to be fixed.

There aren't enough white collar employers to hire all these grads. Louisiana has what, one Fortune 500 company? I think New Orleans and Lafayette have about the same number of publicly traded companies.

Take Southern for instance. The graduation rate is so abysmal that it is embarrassing to consider that it exists in the state.
