1. Memphis, Tennessee
Memphis has more than triple the rate of traffic fatalities nationwide with 38.79 deaths per 100,000 residents, giving it the top slot for the second year in a row.

The report says they have the worst "bad driving" caused crashes.

2. Knoxville, Tennessee
Following in Memphis' footsteps, Knoxville, Tennessee, ranks high on the list. It jumped from rank 25 to rank two overall, thanks to having the fifth-highest rate of speed-related deaths in the nation, with 9.29 deaths per 100,000 residents.

3. Waterbury, Connecticut
Waterbury has more than four times the rate of driving under the influence-related crashes, with 7.87 such fatalities per 100,000 residents. It's the only Northeastern city in the top 40 on the list of 327.

4. Aurora, Colorado
Aurora has 11.02 fatal crashes related to bad driving behaviors per 100,000 residents, causing the city to jump from rank 64 in 2024 to rank 4 in 2025.

5. Tucson, Arizona
Tucson ranks fifth worst overall, but fourth worst in fatalities involving speeding, with 9.75 per 100,000 people, and overall rates of traffic fatalities with 27.05 per 100,000 residents. It went up one rank from last year.

6. Kansas City, Missouri
Kansas City has triple the nationwide rate for deaths involving speeding, with a rate of 10.63 per 100,000 residents.

Even with this, Kansas City ranks high among cities with the least amount of traffic.

7. San Bernardino, California
San Bernardino is the only city in the top 20 to improve in rank from 2024 to 2025. It went from rank 4 to 6, but still has high fatality rates with 24 deaths per 100,000 residents.

8. Billings, Montana
Billings has almost triple the national rate of fatalities and ranks the third-highest for fatalities involving speeding, with 10.14 per 100,000 residents.

9. Miami Gardens, Florida
It's the "least populous metro" of the top 10, but ranks the fifth worst for deadly crashes involving bad driving, with a rate of 11.68 per 100,000 residents. The nationwide rate is 4.78 crashes per 100,000 people.

10. Charleston, South Carolina
The city went from 133rd worst in 2024 to 10th worst in 2025. This is particularly due to an increase in fatalities caused by positive BAC readings and speeding.

11. Murrieta, California
12. Mobile, Alabama
13. North Charleston, South Carolina
14. Lubbock, Texas
15. Birmingham, Alabama
16. Chattanooga, Tennessee
17. Detroit, Michigan
18. Odessa, Texas
19. Cedar Rapids, Iowa
20. Dallas, Texas

It's kinda absurd that there is basically no real way to get across the state without having to go through freaking Atlanta, and lose the inevitable 2 hours it takes to do that.

For whatever reason, Texas has more left lane campers than Louisiana and that's always been surprising to me.

well I was only in Maryland for like 20 minutes, way on the western tip of it.

Of all those states i drove through PA drivers stood out as the worst to me as far as interstate driving went.

South Florida

Came from LA, after 33 years and live in SWFL, now for 12. This is paradise. Amazing roads, awesome infrastructure. quick construction on roads, no potholes.

Too many people that drive from so many different places, but I live 8 minutes from the beach in a place I don't even think about crime, have beautiful palm threes lining my commute to work. We don't suck.

That construction project on I-10 between Beaumont and Orange TX was as overrun as any road project in Louisiana.

easily PA. left laners, very small traffic signs, potholes, rocks all over (avalanche risk) "blinky" traffic signals, sporadic lighting, original roads from the 50's, weather, limited lanes for heavy traffic.... just to start

driving through Oklahoma from Missouri to Texas I hit a wall of snow literally AT the Oklahoma border. Like a clean line of dry pavement in Missouri and right at the Oklahoma sign... a foot of snow.

All of Eastern Oklahoma is every man for himself on the roads in bad weather. No plows, no salt, just 18 wheelers crashed out on the sides of the road and a two hour wait at the single McDonalds for the next 200 miles.

fair. Although I did the drive from Oxford to Starkville once and didn't notice anything I would call a "highway" or even a "road". Not sure the OP intended to include gravel paths.
