If people would actually talk TRUTH then these fake narratives wouldn’t continue for very long. But instead we want to be “polite” and try to “all get along”. frick that.

im sorry but the St. George narrative is most suspect...and truth is not something they do very well at disseminating....they always come across as petty racist

Yep. We always should suspect people that are trying to make their communities better.

Instead, we should trust people like Sharon Weston Broom and Gary Chambers.

I don't buy that. I could care less what color someone is, and honestly don't want my daughter sheltered what I care about is the elementary school around the block is a D, borderline F ranked school.

We were instructed that the only way we would get an ISD is to incorporate and now the best argument is we are racist?

Give me a break. The City is the means to our end, local school for the kids who live in our district. Kids who deserve a good education regardless of race, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status.

The ISD method has worked in BR Area and works in Texas. Neighborhood schools are the reason Livingston and Ascension have exploded.

The race card. That's basically the only argument as to why you shouldn't support incorporation.

Control over schools and law enforcement are good reasons to support it.

Wait, but all the magnet school parents love having the tax payers pay for their private school called the magnet program.

I was absolutely blown away when I heard neighborhood schools don't really exist in BR once I got to LSU from growing up in Katy.

There are still bad schools in places like Cypress and Katy, but there are far more good and very good ones. If they bused the kids from the shite schools in Cypress and sent kids from the good schools to the ones in shite areas, I imagine we'd get a result like BR very quickly.

So instead of having some shite schools in BR mixed with some good ones via neighborhood schools you jut get a bunch of shite ones.

All taxpayers including the parents pay for it. you can absolutely separate students based on ability and still call it public provided education.

Actually the state legislature told them to incorporate if they wanted a new school system. So they began the process and he legislature fought them.

They've always come across to me as a bunch of soccer moms who quickly got in way over their heads.

Yet not all children get to attend a magnet school. Lottery winners rejoice.

I know what they did...I'm referencing the stupidity in Louisiana that school districts at a non-Parish level, must be tied to a municipality.

If your child passes academic muster he/she would absolutely get into either BRH or Lee.

Let's just humor him and say it is, what are we going to do about the other 70% of their primary education?

I don't think they strictly have to be. They do have to pass a vote by the whole legislature, though, before the ISD can be created; basically, the whole state gets a say on the matter. The ISD was originally organized to be created without a city and it was basically torpedoed using clout in the legislature to prevent it from ever coming up in front of the people.

My understanding is that it was intimated to the St. George petitioners that they'd have a better shot at getting the ISD passed through the legislature if they had a municipality in place. Hence: St. George. As the tactics used by opponents to prevent either the City of St. George or ISD from becoming reality come to light (sales tax base land grab, anyone?) and scandal after scandal involving misuse of tax dollars is uncovered, more and more people are throwing their support behind the St. George organizers as it becomes apparent the opposition is all about protecting the money flowing into the EBR coffers.

shite, I live in the City of Baton Rouge and I fully support the founding of the City of St. George.

Is the Lake at White Oak lower-middle class?

quote:

The Lake at White Oak Subdivision is in southeast Baton Rouge, bordering the Amite River which forms the boundary line between East Baton Rouge and Livingston parishes. It is, in effect, on the "outskirts" of the city. There are a little over 500 homes, most of which would be valued in the range of $250,000 to $390,000. They are mostly one-level homes with 4 bedrooms and 2-3 baths. Beginning in 2001 the average price per square foot for sold homes steadily rose from about $90.00 in 2001 to about $125 today.

They don't... but Central tried and failed several times before incorporating and succeeding. St. George tried and failed, hence the attempt to incorporate.
