re: What St George is REALLY about

My guess is that a lot of St George residents would gladly pay a little higher taxes in exchange for good schools. Central did the same thing and their taxes are higher and the schools are better. I pay 10.5k per year to keep my daughter out of BR public schools and to not have to deal with as much traffic.

Under the solid east contract Baker, Zachary, and (Central was later updated) to provide their own service. The only people under the contract are the city of BTR and unincorporated areas. They could piggy back on a separate contract using the same fees if they choose. Baker and Zachary according to lastest fees actually pay less than EBRP does under separate contracts.

Some services yes, the city of St george will have to provide or contract out. EBRP DPW would have to give up the tax dollars or service fees they get from us. The city of St George would get that money to provide those services. Anything better than the services we get out of DPW now which is very poor.

As far as fire it would stay the same as we have a fire district. If we pulled out to start a city fire dept it would hurt the unincorporated areas that are not in the city or proposed area of St George. The city of BTR is ok with hurting our area when annexing strip malls and making our fire district protect it to not hurt their city of BTR fire dept rating.

We would have to contract out police protection with EBRPSO which Central presently does. Right now this area has on avg 7 deputy’s on duty per shift between I-12 and I-10. A new tax base could give us more deptutys on patrol per shift in the whole city
as our taxes would stay here.

There is a percentage of our sales taxes that get thrown in the pot that go to services we do not get such as BRPD and BRPD. Unfortunately since the city parish budget is mixed together sales taxes in our area go to financing services we do not get.

We are better off being our own city and not helping finance the city of BTR services which we do not receive. The city of BTR does not want to incorporate this area because they would have to provide services instead of making money off this area to pay for city services.

BR sales taxes-
5% state
2% EBR school system
1/2% Roads/ road maintenance (GL)
1/2% Sewer
2% City

Unincorporated EBR
5% state
2% EBR schools (those in BRSS)
1/2% roads
1/2% sewer
2% parish taxes

We all pay the same sales taxes except the city and parish part. Does all of the 2% go in the general fund? What services do unincorporated folk get for their 2%???

There's pretty much nothing integrated about EBR public schools.

St George is where the lower middle class live. The houses are almost all below $200k other than CCL. Perhaps everyone's getting those rural loans for these properties. Zero percent down or something like that.
