I've heard that the only way it works if you are a pedestrian is if you maintain a constant pace and show no hesitation so a driver can determine your future location. Any hiccup and you get hit.

Alexander Shunnarah should really set up business in Thailand or Vietnam.

That seems like a great place for a roundabout.

Basically what I was told when I spent the day in Naples years ago. "Just start walking and keep walking. Don't try to dance with them."

They actually pay attention to where they are going.

In 2004 I went back to Vietnam and spent two days in Hanoi where they have like 3 million motorcycles.

It was embarrassing at first that I had to be led across the street by hand because I kept wanting to stop and look out for the bikes.

But I was taught not to stop, ever, the bikers will go around you. Stopping just throws off their concentration and judgment. It is chaos and unnerving but it works.

Yeah, slowly walk at a constant speed and they will drive around you. Some tourists will give the universal hand outward as they cross but I don’t think that helps.

What makes you think they aren't following local traffic laws?

Meh, kinda. Rome is at least controlled chaos. Naples is just chaos

While I was in Rome, a guy told me a joke when I brought up the insanity that was Naples:

"You see, in Milan, the traffic signals are instructions. In Rome, they are suggestions. In Naples, they are Christmas decorations."

It’s like that in India and people there don’t follow many if any traffic laws in most of the cities. The only one that’s (usually but not always) followed is driving on the left side of the road
