I'm wrapping up a gut remodel of my kitchen and bought a French door LG. It has the drink door with the window, not a screen. I think the window is dumb but Ms Dinosaur was all about it

Our appliances were delivered Monday but the fridge was dented and taken back. New one is coming Friday, so I can't offer a review on it yet.

Should be your first sign to not get it.

My wife has expensive taste for unreliable things. Females are the antithesis of pragmatic and utilitarian.

Do not get Samsung. We had one of the top of the line models and the first thing to go was the electrical panel. That was under warranty but otherwise a $1000 repair. Two years later (and after warranty) the compressor went out.

No one local works on them. We had a guy drive in from our of town and he shows up wearing a Samsung shirt. Tells us it’s going to be cheaper to buy a new fridge and to not buy a Samsung because they suck. I kid you not.

As others have said, avoid LG and Samsung. Get a Bosch.

Yes, I know I'll probably end up regretting it.

At least it's just a plexiglass panel and not something with a lot of electrical components with potential to break down.

Kenmore Elite 28cuft french door with in door maker. It's been bullet proof in the 4 years we've had it.

ETA: This one was a little over $2k, but they had a 25cuft or so model for that price point if you didn't need the size.

DO NOT GET SAMSUNG OR LG.

I’ve had a Samsung for about 5 years, with no problems, so I don’t have anything negative to say about the fridge.

-However- I found out that if anything does go wrong with it, the nearest place that will work on it is in Hammond.

So, if it breaks I’m getting a Whirlpool.

Yea, overlooked that part. Still, I say spending a little more is worth it.

If not, as others have said, the more "bels and whistles" you get, the more stuff will break.

I bought a Samsung french door model in 2013. After 6 repairs in the last 7 years it finally is beyond our ability to fix it. Thank you to Napoleon who sent me the schematics which allowed me and the Mrs to keep it running as long as we did. I now have a GE and it has been doing fine.

Samsung and LG are useful in one way. They are extremely innovative in terms of layout and design. Their mechanical parts (the stuff that matter) suck, but they look nice. Them being in the market however has forced innovation by the old dinosaurs GE and Whirlpool so that their offerings are better in terms of functional design than they used to be.

I have The GE with dual ice makers. One in the door and one in the bottom freezer compartment. Great when you want to fill up a smaller cooler full of ice.

Two problems with my GE. If you get any condensation on the rubber gasket on the door with the ice maker then it causes a poor seal and freezes the stuff in the fridge. Caused by my kids opening up the fridge and stairing into it for a few minutes. But that is fixed by just wiping it down with a warm towel then a dry towel. Hasn't happened since I threatened to beat my kids for holding the fridge door open.

The other problem is the filters are $50.
