What kind of money can you expect with a LSU Construction Management Degree?

I'm an incoming sophomore at LSU that majors in Economics, and I'm interested in switching to Construction Management.
I'm currently working as a pipefitter helper and can kinda see myself working in this field. (Industrial Construction)
I'm also from Lake Charles and want to live and work there where there's a big industry out there.
Was seeing if any alumni can chime in and tell me what kind of money ceiling I can expect with this degree plus the pros and cons.

I was a pipe fitter helper during the summer in college as well. Hotter than hell under that flare. Got a good education on union workers those years- if it’s a three month job, you work at that pace and not any faster. Easiest way for those guys to turn on you is working fast. The welders would weld sheet metal together to make bbq pits while on the clock. They told me whatever I do, stay in school and finish my degree. Sound advice.

Do accounting, learn how to run the business and then you can own it instead of working for it.

The ceiling is up to you. Do you want to start your own company? I know guys pulling in 7 figures who went that route.

I have a degree in CM.
Depends on what you want to do.
Was in construction, then got in oil field.
It’s a project management degree.
You can apply it to multiple industries.
You can make 6 figures if you play your cards right.

Get out of Economics. Not much you can do with that degree. A Construction Management degree is definitely better and more useful than an Econ one.
I know someone who made 65k starting out in construction management and bought his own house in a few years. I also know someone with an Econ degree, and he had to go back to college to get something that translates into the job market.

Got a friend out here that went that route 25 years ago and is selling his custom fixer upper company for 7 million and retired. Just bought 2 beachfront properties fixed them up and rents them out for 4000.00 a week. His spending cash in retirement he told me

Learn everything you can about construction, start your own company, and you can hire a accountant.

Take whatever you can get starting out. Work experience (in just about every industry) is valued over simply having a degree. You have to grind and pay your dues starting out the first few years in most industries.

Keep working in the field to get some industrial experience if you can. It will make you infinitely more valuable when you get your degree. The best route I’ve seen where I work is to get into planning, scheduling, PM, etc with a contractor then try to hire on with the plant if you can. The pay is great and the benefits are even better.
