And what is your salary and years of experience. I have a cousin that is going to UL and is considering this path as either mechanical or chemical, wants to work for the oil and gas, thanks! Really trying to help him
Edit: is it more beneficial to get your masters?
Edit: scratch the masters seems like MBA is the way

Sanitation.
To my wife, pleasure.

Tell him to study Materials. Whether it’s mechanical, physics, Pchem…materials always get better and are the cutting edge in everything.
Just my opinion.
I got an MSEE after physics, but work an ME-ish job in aerospace. Low hundo.

My son wants to be engineer. Currently he’s in 8th grade and in math he tested out as a sophomore in college. Combined he tested out as a 12.5 grade level

Why don’t chemical engineers tell jokes?
They’re afraid of a bad reaction.

Don't do mechanical.
College departments push people into it to build trebuchets and make them think they will build a race car.
There aren't as many good paying jobs for MechE as for EE/CompE/ChemE
Mainly because Pharma and Big tech pay so well that everyone gets pulled up in those fields.
Secondly because knowing how to code is critical for most engineering jobs, and MechEs learn a bit of Matlab which is not a real language.
So many MechEs will hire in a general engineering job and then be expected to learn how to code.
Go Chem. I'm EE, but I'd recommend either of the CEs

Got my degree in Petroleum engineering, but found myself with a consulting firm designing natural gas pipelines. Passed my PE exam in Mechanical Engineering.
7 years experience. Extremely blessed. Started making 72k and have doubled that since then.
Mechanical and Chemical are both great. Can find work across many different industries.
Getting that first summer internship is a game changer. Opens a lot of opportunities.

I work with a few engineers, mostly mechanical, Most of them are about 35-45 an hour. I'm a little above that.

What does this mean? Like 6 figures is $100,000 to $999,999, so $250,000 is technically low 6 figures.
I have a Mechanical Engineering degree. Haven't really done much engineering work in years. I was out of the engineering group and into business development before I was even eligible to take the PE exam. Pay is good.

Civil. 8 years. Low 6 figs. I think civil sets you up best to take the PE if that's something he eventually wants to do.
