Guy I know wad a mechanic for waste management. He was working on the hydraulic system in the back of a garbage truck. Someone broke a seal on a line and the back gate came down on him really slowly. He couldn't get out and the other workers there couldn't open the gate. He ended up suffocating from the weight of the gate on him.

One of my dads uncles worked in a paper mill and he had a water hose and was cooling the paper reel when the hose got caught up in the machine and he was pulled through 2 rollers that were about an inch apart.

I work in commercial insurance so I've seen hundreds of these, but yeah, more people suffocate in tanks/containers of material than you'd think, way more people than you'd imagine just fall off of balconies. The biggest casualty counts I've seen from single causes were a 1) a welder that came loose from a flatbed pickup (this happens all the time - I recommend not driving behind them), bounced once and went through the front windshield of a pusher motorhome and out the back, killing the driver and passenger, motorhome then crossed the interstate and struck a car head-on, killing the driver and 2) some crackhead teens screwing around with a white gas backpacking stove (who knows how they got it, that's kind of a niche item for people with disposable income) in a vacant rent house let out a lot of fuel before igniting it and blew themselves up. 2 died, one lived on horrifically disfigured.

Guy who's wife worked for us, pulled up to a red light next to a log truck. Light turned green, log truck shifted gears and the straps broke.

Full load rolled off the truck onto his car. Needless to say, he got smooshed.

Similar thing happened to Will Clark the baseball player an d his on. Some piping I believe landed on their vehicle but they fortunately survived.

A co-worker's mother worked at an aluminium factory. She was walking on some grating above a large vat of melted alumnium when the grating came loose. She fell into the vat of molten aluminum.

Summer vacation before freshman year of HS. A friend was visiting his grandparents in Boston and was struck by lightning. Other than that everyone else died naturally, or from a heroin overdose. That shite has claimed two friends over the past 4 years.

On June 29, 1967, Mansfield, her lawyer, her driver and three of her five children were driving from an appearance in Biloxi, Mississippi, to New Orleans for a TV interview early in the morning. It was just before 2:30 a.m. when her car came up on a tractor-trailer too fast, not seeing it because of anti-mosquito fog clouding the highway. The small car didn’t just rear-end the tractor-trailer; it went completely underneath it, shearing the top of the car off. It also killed the three adult passengers of the car almost instantly. Pictures of the accident site were pretty gruesome; a mass of blonde hair sitting all by itself made people wonder if Jayne had been decapitated or had simply lost her wig.

18 wheelers now have the Mansfield bar to prevent this. Mother of Mariska Hargitay.

Co-worker went for a jog on the beach after a sales meeting in Hilton Head and was hit from behind by a plane making any emergency landing after it engine blew and the propeller has fallen off. He had left all his identification in his room and when he didn't show up dinner some one realized what had happened on the beach might have him and ended up having to ID his body. Married with 2 young kids the saddest shite I've ever heard of.

I didn't know her, but a lady that was attending a Saints party next door to me was attempting to drive home after the game. She got in her SUV to back out of the driveway. She managed to put the car in neutral and fell out somehow. The SUV rolled over her and into the street. A friend and I saw her wallowing in the driveway gasping for breath.
Nobody at the party had noticed so we called 911 and alerted them. A fire engine showed up within 60 seconds and an ambulance a few minutes later. Although she was conscious when we found her she went unconscious while the paramedics were putting her in the ambulance. We could see them start CPR as they drove off.

A couple hours later two detectives knocked on the door to interview us about what happened. Apparently she died. This was in Lakeview in New Orleans.

My uncle who had bean head of a volunteer fire department and was a retired forester who had done countless prescribed burns, died when he stumbled into a small burn pile in the backyard.
