Why are galaxies colliding if the Big Bang is pushing everything out? Why aren’t they all just getting further apart?

Gravity still rules our galactic cluster. So the clusters are getting further away from each other, but the galaxies inside the clusters are attracted to one another by gravity

Damn, I bet you’re fun at parties.

In fact most significant others ban their loved one from hanging out with me any further after a good party session...I wear that as a badge of honor.

Until it collapses into itself. It will be like when you turned an old tv off....horizontal lines suddenly emanating from a dot, then zip zap poof...all gone, nothing remaining.

Or it keeps expanding until it runs out of the building blocks that create the stars and planets. Either way, the universe is doomed by the Big Crunch or the Big Chill.

Per wiki, space isn't expanding into anything, and isn't required to. So deal with it.

Because they are local galaxies and the gravitational pull is too strong.

The universe doesn't have an "edge." There is no "just beyond" because that would also be in the universe.

What if you traveled in one direction until you came back to the point you started?

Great show. Believe it or not, Will Smith's "One Strange Rock" series has some fairly interesting segments touching on some of this. Amongst other kewl stuff.
