What is the point of loud truck exhausts?

Forget lifted trucks. I'm talking about these guys that drive like 10-20 year old Chevys that have a performance exhaust. It's like they ride up and down Airline in D2 or D3 pretending to be a race car.

It's the same reason people ride loud motorcycles. Attention whoring.

You see it less these days because of Facebook providing an easier and cheaper means.

Same reason diesel drivers feel the need to stomp the accelerator to the floor or not at all.

Kid dick.

Seriously, I was thinking about this several days ago. There is a guy behind my house that has loud truck exhaust & when people are outside he will rev it up even louder & I just think "what kind of statement are you making? Wow! You added an accessory to your truck so that when you rev it up it is louder than it is when it comes from the manufacturer" It fricking sucks.

I had to get my muffler replaced on my old Dodge truck. The guy at the muffler shop told me that the type of muffler I had was one of the extra quiet ones. He wanted to know if I wanted the new one to be the same or one with more throaty noise to it.

???

I told him I didn't understand the question, but yes, I would like the quietest muffler they offered, all engine performance issues being equal.

My muffler was fricked up internally, so I got a MagnaFlow for $20 after a gift card and welded it on. Isn't loud by any means.

As far as driving fast, go suck a duck.
