I don't care what people do with their own money and I don't understand why anyone does.

Do I even want to go on the trip? I mean, if you're dead set on dragging me to Branson or something like that, I'm not going to feel bad about letting you foot some of the bill.

My wealthy father in law invited us to disney world, he sent an invoice at the end. That seemed trashy because we didn't even want to go and had zero input on the itinerary or agenda. We are all going to Sedona in the fall, I'm not going to let him pay for a thing since he is so greedy lol.

Who cares? If someone has the money and want's to pay for someone else, what's the problem?

Yes, I've had parents, in-laws, grand parents, and even an uncle pay for us on trips as adults.

My parents and inlaws still buy us stuff, I will do the same for my children and their families. We still pay for things and try to pick up tabs, but they usually never let us.

It depends on the situation obviously. My parents recently paid for a trip for this girl I'm dating and I to go to this awesome resort in Kennebunkport. I show up to check in and do all that stuff and the people at the front desk let me know everything was already paid for.

The biggest cringe moment is when this hoe heard that and said,"does that mean they paid for room our service!?"

Me-

Good lord, bitch... Act like you've been here before. The worse thing is when she sent back her frickING CLUB SANDWICH twice because,"it tasted funny", best thing I did on that trip was go for my supposed super long morning runs when I was really going to my favorite coffee shop in town just to get away for an hour. /endbadtriprant

What is the OT's take on parents paying for adult children on a family vacation?

We do a yearly trip with the in-laws. They pay for lodging, we pay to get there and pitch in for alcohol/food while there

Trashy?
Reasonable?
Discuss.

No
Yes
Great way to "transfer" money tax free. Because the in-laws picked up the $10k tab for the wife and kids, that's just like them giving our family $10k. Now, they still can transfer $14k per person to each family member. Same goes with paying for private school tuition.

Sure.

I'm pretty surprised by the board's overwhelming consensus.

I don't see how anyone would think someone gifting you a trip would be trashy.

Unless, it's a carnival cruise...

you're surprised that a board a mostly mid to upper middle class people don't care about parents paying for family vacations?

why?

if their parents are anything like mine, its usually like "hey we rented a house for a few days here, y'all want to come?"

there really is no option to pay

I'm not, I know a bunch of parents that pay for their kids and grandkids vacation if they can afford and even they can barely afford it. A girl that works for me took her kids, bastard grandkids and her daughter's friend and her bastard children to the beach this past week. Her daughter tried to hit on some guys and told her they didn't mess with fatties and I almost feel over laughing.

I usually can't afford a summer beach trip and decline to go. A few times my parents just wanted me there so I crashed on an air mattress and they bought me some beer to go with my self-funded sandwiches.
It's like the OT expects 21-25 y/o's to be millionaires with a well-funded 401k

I don't really go on vacations with my mom or anything, but if I go somewhere with my mom she rarely lets me pay for anything..I'll be like "I got it" and she will hand the person her card before I can even get to mine.

Parents are grown arse people. If they insist on paying for their kids then who am I to judge?
