Sounds kind of like East Texas. Some places are friendly or at least polite. Some places, small businesses act like they're annoyed when you come through the door to try to spend money. Think you'll enjoy some nice quaint mom & pop cafe, and they're just rude as shite. Especially if it's close to 3 o'clock when the town shuts down.
Really weird if you're more accustomed to small towns in Central or South Texas, or coastal areas, where people at least wave if they don't stop to chat.

I bunch of us in 80s were in Memphis and went into the nearest little non discript little bar for a drink. I really don’t member if we have dates with us or not. When he walked it it was like the music stopped and everyone looked at us like WTF are you doing here. We are already drunk and not everyone caught on a few people went to the bathroom, but within 5 minutes everyone got it. We paid for our drink and got the frick out of there as soon as possible.
It was a bunch of old Italian guys in the back tables and if it wasn’t a mob bar I have no clue

Plaquemines Parish back in the Perez days. I would He required workers obtain a card to work in the parish. My dad always tells a story where he flashed his “card” to a national guard blocking traffic in belle chase and was waved through.
Ah the good ole days
Now we’re gonna have New Orleans RTA running through the middle of Chalmette and nobody knew anything about it to try to stop it

Vidor, Texas....or so the news said several years ago.
ETA: I forgot that there is some island of the cost of India I think that it is forbidden to go to. The natives tend to kill everyone that steps foot on it.

Any job openings around there?
Haleyville? No. Not much to do there and close to nothing. Cullman is interesting. Close to Smith Lake and it’s close enough to either Huntsville, Decatur, or Birmingham to commute.
Besides all the stereotypical locations mentioned already, Boulder, CO fricking sucked. The people there were weird and they all made it clear they didn’t want you there.

Did you intentionally list two places that have already been said five times?

No, but I did only intentionally read about the first 4 posts rather than four pages.

A hollow in Eastern KY or TN where they are making moonshine and growing weed.

Visited NY a few years back and got lost in Brooklyn and found myself in a Hasidic Jewish neighborhood. I've never felt so unwelcome in a place in my life. Women would cross the street as I was walking towards them, men ignored me when I was trying to get directions.
Finally got to where I was going to meet an old friend, and told him about it. I thought it was because I was black. He said no, they don't like any outsiders.

A black neighborhood if you're white.
I lived most of my life as the snowflake in the hood and folks welcomed me. Maybe if you are white and have a small peen you get a poor reception.
