Kids today have it pretty good. 80's American cars were so shitty, it was almost a weekly occurrence that someone in high school was broke down on the side of the road.

2007 Lexus ES350

I have used a Lexus ES for my travel car for years.

The ES 330 was given to my nephew running at ~500k and he has over 600K on it now.

Repairs:
back up bulb at 120k
power steering hose ~375k
turn signal bulb ~400k
trunk electric release ~420k
The nephew did CV joints at ~600k

My ES 350 is at 417k now
CD player issue under warranty at 40k
a coil pack went out at ~350k and I replaced them all
O2 sensor at at 412k

Between the two of them less than $2300 in repairs in over a million miles. In every case except the bulbs someone was paid to do the work.

I have a 2006 Tundra with 180k miles.

Outside of normal maintenance (oil changes, tires, brakes, battery). I've replaced the timing belt at 120k and the alternator at 165k.

1987 4-door Chevy Cavalier. Bought it my freshman year at LSU and put 375,000 miles on it before it crapped out on me. And it only did that because my ex drove it with no oil in it.

1999 Honda CR-V warped the head in Lagrange Tx on the way to BR from PHX. Two months and 3,000 miles later, I realized there was coolant in a chamber if I parked facing down hill. Otherwise, no loss of power, gas mileage, or anything else. 180k miles, and it has never failed to go where I tried to drive it.

2003 Trailblazer EXT 220k miles before I sold it. Bought at 50k

2015 Expedition EL Limited 85k so far, 40k from myself. Zero issues to date, beside a snapped lug.

All the Corvettes (over the past 23 years) I've owned have been solid, dependable cars, but I didn't track them much.

The one that sticks out is the 1980 Z-28. It always had some kind of issue. The RS I had after that was fine.

I had either an 04 or an 06 F-150 KR that had bad valve guides at 40K so I got rid of that POS. All the other Ford and GM trucks were fine.

1989 Nissan Hardbody. 5 speed regular cab. Got it with like 250k on it and ran it until 350ish and sold it. Still ran fine.

The timing chain wore through the guides then the water jacket and leaked all the coolant out. I was piss broke so only drove it before or after sunrise or it would overheat. Drove it like that for like 10k miles. Fixed it and kept rolling. AC on full blast was literally unbearably cold in the summertime.

2002 Dodge Dakota pickup. It had over 170K miles when I got rid of it. Except for replacing a water pump, that was, by far, the most solid vehicle I've ever owned.

The day I sold it, there were still no squeaks, rattles, cracks in the dash, or other obvious signs of wear and tear. Many a day, I wish I still had it.

are you serious? I sold my 97 with the 4.0 about 5 or 6 years ago with only 50k miles. Regretted it ever since. Now I really do. I bet you've put thousands in gas in it

That is like the holy grail of Jeep engines, like the 7.3 Ford diesel.

I have put 250,000 miles on three tundras and did nothing to any of the three except change oil, tune up twice each, change tires, brake pads and changed batteries and the timing belt as scheduled.

All simply scheduled maintenance.

I have never had a part fail
