Bacchus on St. Charles in the neutral ground. Get there early and set up your own little area (not saying rope off or anything, just set out chairs around your ice chest). It's like a tailgate with parades damned near all day. It's not really a purely "adult" experience either, there might be a family with kids near you. I found it very fun even in college. The debauchery usually happens in places that really aren't fun to me (bourbon during mardi gras for example)
I'll say, I've not been to the bash's and stuff like friends have now that we are a bit older. I hear they are a blast as well.

Krewe d'etat on Friday is a good one...as long as they're not easily offended

Technically, yes. Many people mistakenly refer to the
Endymion Extravaganza
Orpheuscapade
Bacchus Bash
as each krewe's "ball". Most krewes hold a coronation ball separately from the end of the parade party.

Stay home and watch them on television.
Upside: You are less likely to get shot.
Downside: You have to listen to the local news dicks.

Eydmion is overrated. Muses and Zulu are the best parades, imo.
That and Krewe of Dreaux

This.
If crowds are not your thing, or you don't want to be in the middle of a bunch of strangers, Le Krewe d'Etat on Friday night is just the ticket. It's not the most artistic parade, but it is relevant and funny as hell, a satirical parade that takes on EVERY political story of the last six months.
They will absolutely NAIL President Trump, they'll do worse to Mrs. Clinton and Mayor Landrieu.
We go up Magazine Street before it turns onto Napoleon Ave. The crowd is, usually, one deep. There are restaurants and bars right there. Bring your ice chest and chairs and there will be few people, enough to have fun with.

Probably not, unless they're giant pussies that are afraid of Mardi Gras.
I used to watch Zulu in Iberville and I'm white. The only thing that happened was I caught 8 coconuts and my best friend caught 7.

Endymion no doubt
Eta: but really there are many factors. #1 in my opinion being having a "home base". Knowing somebody on the route of any parade makes it 10x's better. If you know someone that lives in Mid City definitely hit up Endymion. If you know somebody on St. Charles, any uptown parade is fun.

I have the most fun at Tuck's tbh...it just feels like one big party on wheels

I think catching Muses at a bar in the downtown area (bar on Tchoups) and Orpheus in the 1/4 is as good a MG gets.
Meh, Muses has been lame the last two years. They became self aware of how popular they got and started to not throw as much.
Nyx is a much more enjoyable parade, but I have a feeling it will go that way in a few years as well.
The best days for me are Friday uptown for Hermes and D'Etat, Saturday morning for Iris and Tucks (mainly Tucks, but some of the girls in Iris like to party), Sunday all day for Thoth, Bacchus, etc, and of course Tuesday for Zulu and Rex.
If I were an out of towner coming for a fun time, I'd hang out around Napoleon and St Charles for the Sunday parades if I had to pick my favorite. Nothing beats walking around that area with a few drinks and taking in the scenery.
But do as much as you can.

They willing to spend money? Buy tix to the Endymyion Extravaganza or Bacchus Bash that are both at the end of their parades. More of a formal affair, but you're off the street and away from idiots who knock kids over to catch cheap plastic trinkets.

quote:Winner. I've been to Extravaganza and Bash many times, and drinking all day at the parades, followed by bar hopping at night is the most fun.
Bacchus on St. Charles in the neutral ground.
Make sure to eat food. Sometimes people will just give it to you, some places sell normal hot dogs/burgers, or you can get restaurant food. You can pay your $5 and use clean bathrooms all day, or use the free Porta-potties which can get nasty

We go by Superior Grill on Mardi Gras, that's a nice spot, lots of space to spread out and you can get out of there easily if necessary.

Skip that shite and go to Church Point or Mamou instead.

What you are looking for is the party at the conclusion of the parade. Basically parade rolls thru the Dome/Convention Center and then there is a big party with bands and stuff. The coronation balls are prior to the event.
Seriously search for Endymion Extravaganza and/or Bacchus Bash tickets on the interwebs. FYI they are formal events so u will need a tux.

Bacchus is fun, but it's no Box of Wine.

Tucks is a good time and a dirty twist. Draws huge crowds and it's in competition with Endymion.
Posted on 1/25/17 at 10:06 am to toosleaux
Endymion, get out early and party all day long.
