I can’t think of a single thing I hate about my job. It is the best job I’ve ever had and work for the best boss I could imagine.

This is a problem for me too and I've thought about making a thread about it. My ex and I talked about it quite often. Neither of us had kids and still don't, and people that do seem to get a free pass for leaving early, coming in late occasionally, etc. When I questioned a young single mother about wanting to take 2 additional days off while her kids were on spring break, she even made the 'well, my kids come before this job' comment as if I was wrong for questioning her last minute notice. It's frustrating when I have to stay late because others can't because they have children and I do not and it's almost like by default, it's me because I guess that I have no where else to be. Which in my case is untrue, because I have a personal meeting that I try to attend twice a week that is pretty damn important to me and I have to miss it with more and more frequency due to work.

It's like smokers that get extra breaks throughout the day just because they smoke. I feel like if I brought it up, I'd be looking at like a bitter, kid hating, jealous person just because all I have is a cat at home that I don't particularly like.

I’m a teacher so it’s a nice list.

Number one thing is in order for me to get a raise I have to ask people to pay more taxes.

How old are you where your co-workers have 'sleep overs'?

That's never happened where I work, at least, that I know of. Maybe a random hook up here and there, but I sure never heard about it.

My boss in my previous job was a real a-hole and horrible at project management. The job was for a small engineer firm, so other than my boss, I was the only engineer. He let the clients dictate the schedule so much and every time we got a project, he would tell the client they would have it in two weeks. Regardless of the other project we were working on, it was always 'you'll have it in two weeks' and the clients took advantage of this. He hired 3 new engineers, one a year out of college and the other two were over 50 and did all there calculations by hand. So I wound up doing all the calculations anyway and working a buttload of overtime. So, over stressed and with a vacation coming up, I gave my two weeks notice.

Your co-workers have awesome orgies and view you as the office loser.

If a company has high turnover, its more often than not a management problem. Take good care of your employees and they'll take good care of your customers. If your employees are constantly "firing" you as a company then maybe you're doing something wrong.

We have extremely low turnover. We may have 1 or 2 people quit per year but mostly it's us firing them because they're the weakest link.

It doesn’t matter if you have nothing more significant to do than go home and play video games and jerk off to porn. Your time away from work is just as valuable as any other employee’s.

I agree, but it just doesn’t seem to happen that way. Someone always has to go pci yo the kids or the daycares closed that day or little Johnny’s teacher called, etc.

I’m going to start leaving because I have to take my cat to obedience school.

I have a kid and end up staying late fairly often. My wife's office closes at 5 pretty much no matter what so she handles the kid in the evening. I do mornings.

Reason I asked you was because my family owns an architectural sign company so i always like to hear from employees at other small family owned companies. We're about a $6mil company and have approximately 43 employees. Most family owned, small businesses have the same problems from my conversations with other employees/owners. I wish I could find better talent all-around but I don't have the labor budget to do that. The ones that are the rock-stars, they get paid very well and then everyone else makes a living.

I work for a family owned business and this is a problem. From a non family employees point of view, pay your people what they deserve and your profits will increase. We have people leaving fairly regularly due to pay. They love the company but when you are getting paid only 60-70% of what your peers are earning at other locations then what is the point of staying?
