re: Company car w/ gas card OR $1k monthly allowance + fed mileage rate

I have done both. Depends on the vehicle the company is willing to give you to work out of and if you are willing to use it for personal use. IF they will not allow personal use, go with the money. IMO

re: Have you moved from a larger to city to a small town / countryside? How was it?
Posted by lrabor3 on 3/25/24 at 11:07 am to Thundercles
So I moved from the big city to small town right after college, BR to Rural Cental LA. I hated it at first but the pros outweigh the cons every day of the week.
Pros:
slower pace of life
no traffic
We have fiber internet
lower cost of living
you can make things happen in the small town (political pull)
genuine people, who are willing to help
safer to raise a family and kids have room to play and not be stuck in front of a screen
Cons:
35 min to a good emergency room
restaurants shut down on the weekends
everyone knows your business (if that bothers you)
No "good" gorcery stores, you can't get unique foods

Why are you hating so much? I asked a simple question and people answered. Thanks to everyone with viable answers.
Coming from the south, do you regret making the move? I have heard everyone say that once you find the right people you are good to go. That's going to involve finding the right church to get involved with. Did you go with proper Midland to move into or did you go to the Greenwood area?

One other word of advice, if you have a lucrative job offer, there is undoubtedly a reason they want to pay you that much to live there…figure out why they want to pay you so much. Some here have said the cost of living is decent in west Texas. With all of the activity in the Permian basin, I’ll bet the cost of living is going to knock your socks off compared to what you spend in Jena.
After visiting the area and looking at comparable housing, this post is no joke. the housing costs are insane.

There are some really nice areas outside of midland that we saw. Greenwood was nice area with houses with acreage.

Hence the statement at first stating that my wife and I just went out there to visit.

Not sure how long, but my wife I and know once we leave LA we aren't coming back. Weird to say when we have lived here our whole lives. And we would leave our family behind.

I received a good offer from a company based out of Houston but the position is in Midland, TX. My wife and I took a trip this weekend out to Midland and actually enjoyed the city. It was clean in the nice areas and the people we did meet were nice. For every reason we can think of going, we can come up with a reason to not. We would be leaving CENLA.

I remember in my day that's all you had for a first interview. I remember having one day where I did 2-3 back to back.

You have to give props to Skenes. I don't care if this has been going on since February. If it is true, He's scoring with every high school boy's dream girl at the moment.

I was approached by an older gentleman to buy his company last year. He had an unrealistic valuation and would not consider his liabilities he had too. We were so far apart I ended up just dropping the offer.

THat would be pretty amazing if they are able to figure this out. Please let me know what company to put some money into
This deal was purely for the CCS infrastructure that Denbury had created for EOR projects. They have a pipeline running from the Jackson Dome all the down to the I-10 corridor. Then the pipeline goes from NOLA area to Houston. Exxon will be able to capitalize on the Carbon sequestration from all the plants along this corridor and from the carbon credits that the government is giving out. The 46,000 BOE production wasn't even valued highly within this deal.

32 with a 4 & 3 year old. They do get spankings. The younger one you can take things away and she basically tells you "I don't care", give her a little tap and she straightens up. The 4 year responds better to losing a toy or TV time. I try no to spank him because it doesn't affect him at all. He continues doing whatever even after a spanking.
