He had a two week rant on Next Door a month or so ago that was quite entertaining. Now that’s a douchebag to complain about.

Don’t hire contractors that expect money up front. Pay at the end of of the job. If the contractor can not float your residential project for a month, they are too risky to be doing business with.

Both estimates we got were a percentage of completion payment schedule. I figured that was standard.

We did that with Acadian House Kitchen & Bath in BR a couple years ago. Paid a percentage over the course of the project. But they are a very, very reputable and trustworthy company to deal with so we were comfortable doing that.

Contractors stack more jobs than they can handle then string you along until they can finally get to you

Maybe, maybe not. It’s according to the scope of the job. I’m not going to “float” my money on your project if it is a sizable one. However, a legitimate contractor will never “get ahead” of the customer. If I have done work, provided material, paid payroll, it is reasonable to get a draw. My usual schedule on larger jobs is 30% after tearout and material delivery, 30% after rough work is complete and the remainder upon completion. Contractors are no different than any other service provider, building a relationship helps. OP, hope you guy shows up soon.

That was an epic melt. He had a lot of nerve coming in here and tried his damndest to convince the OT he wasn’t a fraud and that he was not responsible for stealing money from hard working people. The guy’s a real POS.

Exactly. No way I’m paying up front.

Small jobs for sure. Now if it is a few grand, 1/3 up front.

OP, why not just do it yourself? Oh, forgot some people just don't want to get their hands dirty.

you get shitty service when you go with the cheapest bid

They are probably backed up from the shite weather we have had the last week. They should still respond to your texts/calls but when weather pushes back one job, it pushes back everyone's job behind it

I’ve done that before but I had surgery on my arm a few months ago (don’t worry, the wife has picked up the slack ) and probably shouldn’t be doing that kind of heavy lifting right now.

Anyone do any work with Ozuna's Painting? I've got them doing some stucco repair work tomorrow and Thursday...

Online reviews seemed favorable and their level of communication has been top notch thus far.

very few contractors have interest in home renovations unless it's customers with big houses and money. More money and better work in new homes

I understand it would be hard to be a contractor. what I don't understand is there inability to be on time.

have been renovating my house little by little for a few years and each time I’ve had an appointment with a contractor the following happened:

1. They don’t answer their phone and never return voicemails or texts

2. They just don’t show up at the time they say they will

3. Or they just don’t show up at all

Who is recommending these people to you???
You should be pissed off at that person.

There are a LOT of outstanding contractors and subs in the Baton Rouge area.

Great painters. Not sure about their plaster but that is something that needs to be watched.

Big Christians. Only one that will have a cervesa is the dad.
