I have never seen more flys at one time than when I was in the HC. I’ll pass, I can hear the music on the radio.

Which 6 months of the year is the hill country “not pleasant”?

Honestly it’s kinda boring except during summer when you can hit all the different waters.

It’s not just Austin, there has been a long time hippie / leftist element to the region of the hill country. Thank the Germans

The western half of Montgomery County is more my cup of tea. It's so lush here.

West Texas is amazing - my snake hunting areas are mostly from Sanderson to the Davis mountains. The wildlife is amazing.

On my last trip just a few weeks ago, in addition to the 17 species of snakes, I caught a baby porcupine, baby javelina, and a couple baby vultures. Right before I got there, my friends caught a baby ringtail and a couple baby spotted skunks. I also got to video a mountain lion from about 20 ft. away and saw elk by the dozens. West Texas has turned my life into an episode of Wild Kingdom. I’m heading there again for a few days on my way to & from Arizona.

We also hiked into a canyon and found a little swimming hole…

And you just can’t beat a West Texas sunset…

Google the German Free Thinkers, they were highly educated people who settled a lot of the hill country.

Hot Springs, Arkansas. National Park, 3 lakes, horse racing and casino, camping, hiking all within easy distance. Ouachita mountains on national forest land. Plenty of history and famous for the hot water baths.

Plenty of famous people have been there and a old gangster history.

I was thinking that it isn’t much fun when really hot but if you suggest it’s not much fun other than when it’s hot, I guess it’s not that great year round.

They were “worker rights” revolutionaries who failed their workers revolution in Germany and so came to America.

Nothing positive about it really.

First thought is somewhere like north Georgia?

It's definitely nice here in north Georgia, but if you ever get an opportunity to see the mountains and the Flathead River in northwest Montana... Just - wow!

Hunting for deer, elk, moose, bear, big horn sheep. Fly fishing for cutthroats, bull trout, brown trout, rainbow trout, whitefish. Hiking amazing mountains. Not sure about swimming in some of those lakes, though. That water is COLD!

Eastern Idaho on the Salmon River is pretty spectacular as well.

Downside - winters are BRUTAL.
