January 18, 1977, was a day marked by both tragedy and significant events. In Australia, the nation's worst railway disaster occurred in Granville, Sydney, resulting in 83 fatalities. Additionally, scientists identified a new bacterium as the cause of Legionnaires' disease. Furthermore, a severe cold wave brought snow to Florida and Cuba, causing widespread damage and even leading to the designation of some Florida counties as disaster areas.

I actually knew a VinJay Patel. His family was in the, wait for it....., the hotel business.

I knew a guy who went by the name Dennis (it was some long name starting with a D but he used Dennis) Patel. I met him when I was working in the Cotton Valley staying in Minden. He owned and ran the Hotel I stayed at for about a year.

Went to high school with a Danesh and Divya Patel. Their parents owned the local Red Roof Inn. The bus dropped them off there every day.

They have now expanded to the Motel 6 and Hampton Inn in my hometown. Not sure if the kids have taken over or if they went off to be doctors or engineers because they were incredibly good students.

That same guy in Minden had family that owned another place just down the road. Not sure if it was his or her family. Two of the three hotels on that street at the time. The other was a fleabag hotel called the Exacta Inn.

I’m 10/27/70, not much happened that day. “I’ll be there” by The Jackson 5 was #1 and Nixon gave some speech.

The only cool thing is I share a birthday with The Teflon Don, John Gotti. He was born in 1940 and has been dead about 23 years. No matter what your opinion of him is, you can’t deny he was a man’s man.

I just realized Heather Graham and I share a bday too! I still have a chance!
