Regardless of color, the shape of the head and those tight smooth scales make it clearly a skink. They're badass looking lizards.

Love those skink devils. Won't hurt anything but people freak out. I have had a couple twice that size before. Kinda cool

Great to have around the house since they eat mosquitoes and other small bugs.

I have several different varieties of lizards in my back yard vegetable garden and appreciate every one of them for the aphids, caterpillars, destructive pests, etc. they eat off my plants before they can do damage.
