Some states have group homes for people with various mental issues.

In Texas there is the Denton State School that services a big portion of the state and takes in all sorts of mentally retarded people. It’s a huge campus with people of a wide variety of ages (all the way to elderly).

There are many types of idiots. The type of idiot on that board is clearly ego driven. These type don’t put much value in opinions of experts in particular fields of education or career. They rely on their own ego driven solutions or thought.

There is a guy at our church who is 17 now and has a great family who supports him. He recently took on a job as the school crossing guard and I know he will do great.

They have group homes dumbass

Probably the same if you don’t have kids to take care of you in old age when you will need it since you seem to have issues as well

So go persuade them. Or be a whiner and slur people you lack the confidence to debate. Your choice.

Don’t think the ideas are worth spreading. Some people may actually defend or become offended.

Offended? No, I’m just unimpressed by drive by insults of entire boards from people who can’t make persuasive arguments and are so new they don’t have the lay of the land.

Maybe shut your pie hole with the low information insults, and actually make an argument and go from there.

It is rare for Down's patients live past their mid thirties. They don't outlive their parents very often. Maybe that is God's way of protecting them?

Bro, the average life expectancy of Down’s syndrome patients is like 60+.

I have a theory that 100 years ago it was way less risky to have a kid in a woman’s later years because the kid wouldn’t likely live long if it had big problems. Now modern medicine is good enough that lots of retarded people live a long time.

I’ve seen people stay in the family home after the parents die. They turn the family home into a group home for a couple or few other special needs adults. This allows them to stay there and provide a service to other special needs adults in the area.

The life expectancy has increased dramatically:

quote:

Today, people with Down syndrome (DS) are living longer and healthier than any other time in the past. In 1900, the life expectancy of people with DS was 9 years. By 1984, the life expectancy had increased to 28 years. Since then, the life expectancy of people with DS has increased to about 60 years* (1-4).
