There’s no phone number to call. They must not feel like listening to hundreds of excuses. Says you have to email or fax any correspondence.
Also, I wondered same thing about the whole “lost in the mail”. How do they know it didn’t get thrown in the storm drain with all the other mail the mail person threw in there? Just wanted to see if anyone had personal experience.

It's best to ignore if you plan on not serving.

You can always argue that you never received the summons.

Your letter acknowledged receipt. This was a mistake.

You may get life.

Nah...I tried to do the “right thing” first. But I am not going to be able to make it and will have to skip it. They can send me another letter and I’ll go next time.

Years ago I got jury duty during a scheduled technical service trip that really could not be moved. The court said that was OK and rescheduled me for Thanksgiving week.

That wasn't so bad, nobody wants to try cases during a holiday week so we never had to even go in.

I wouldn't just skip it, you'll worry about it for years. If they don't email back then give them a call, that's how I dealt with it.

Probably not applicable here but I was in Federal Court when a juror didn't show up. The Judge stopped jury selection to have some US Marshals come before the bench. He told them to go find the guy, explain that the Summons wasn't a request and to bring him before the Bench.

They brought the guy in right after lunch. The Judge questioned him for a bit (guy admitted he was at work and "forgot") and Judge sent him to sit in the hall with the Marshals for an hour before he let him leave.

When I lived in Orleans I was getting them pretty regularly..Like one every 4 years?
When I moved to Jefferson it has been ridiculous. I have been here for 11 years and was called in but was not picked so exactly two years later got another one. The day before you are told you are not needed and your name goes back into the pool. I must have gotten 4 since I have been here. I called and complained I haven't gotten one since.
The lady did admit that I was getting called a lot.

You do realize that USPS photographs every (99+%) of all mail to be delivered right? I get an email every morning with photos of the mail to be delivered that day.

You can usually call and explain your situation and they will just reschedule you for another pool.

This is what's happened every time I had a conflict. They just excused me and put me back into the pool and I always got another summons within a year and a half or so.

I still have my check somewhere from the last time I had to serve in a pool. I was there three days and I think my check for time and mileage was something like 15 bucks.

Received the letter and have emailed and told them I have had a trip to Houston scheduled since last year. Cannot be rescheduled. No response as of yet. Told them I’d be available following week if needed. Anyone know anyone that’s skipped it and what happened?

Your first mistake was even contacting them.

You miss your chance to sit in righteous judgment of others. It's quite a rush. Like being Baptist, but with legal backing.

A whole bunch of responses and not one that was actually a correct informative answer.

Jury notices sent through regular mail can be ignored. If you ignore enough of them, they may send someone out to serve you a summons (placed in your hand). If you get that one, you should definitely show up. A warrant can be issued if you ignore a jury notice after you have been served.

LOL....this is true but the images are not stored.....in 30 days they are gone.....you really think local governments have the resources to track down everyone that ignores a jury duty summons?

Or that they would if they could?

Give me a break.

I think everyone that can perform this important civic duty should but if someone chooses to ignore it so what.
