Our (duval cty fl)jury notices advise that if you provide a written explanation for an exemption and you dont hear back that the exemption is denied....then you are excused. I was excused twice in college due to final exams. Then didnt get a summons for some 15 yrs but had a booked trip
..was excused. A couple yrs later got another summons and had no out...so i attended. Sat in this holding room with several hundred others. Got the spiel about civic duty...and assigned to a drunk driving case. Lawyer asked if anyone didnt drink/opposed to drinking. I raised my hand. I knew i wasnt going to be selected. I sat there for two more hours...sat there through lunch and was thinking "c'mon judge"...right after lunch the judge announced some of those not selected and ..apologized for keeping us there but stated if he let us go earlier there could be a chance we'd go have to go back down stairs, back in the pool and there happened to be a very high profile murder case going to jury selection that day and that would be weeks if not months of a trial
..so by keeping us, he insured we got our requirement met and were free to go.

The last time I was called, at least a third of them were no shows. Safety in numbers.

You have to send them a letter back. I doubt they respond to e-mail. Basically you'll get a warrant/fine which you have to pay off. If you don't pay it I think they'll suspend your license.

Go ahead and go to the Dollar General and get a pair of shower shoes, a new toothbrush, and some soap on a rope. You'll be needing them all soon.

Yeah - if you don't show up, they will issue a summons and you will have to go down anyway and explain to the judge why you blew it off.

Thank you very much for your response. Just figured out why some of you aren't being called. Advocate article

I've received the letter a couple of times, the last being about 5 years ago. I went to neither. Nothing happened. If it's not certified with a signature being required for receipt they can't prove you received it.

I've been registered to vote since I was 18. 23 years and never been called.

I have been called up 3 or 4 times, but every single time I was asked to call on a Sunday evening to see the status of the case and each time I didn't have to go because it was settled.

The last two times I was called up. it was within the same year.

I'm 58 and been called 5 times, and served on 3 juries. One was a murder trial, one a drug trial, and the famous hair in a biscuit trial.

The murder trial was very interesting !

I was in a jury pool in Bossier Parish and if you no showed, the judge issued a bench warrant and sent deputies out to find you.

I've had jury duty once, about 10 years ago. Every day we showed up at 8 and were dismissed around 3. Gave us our choice of either sitting in a room watching movies or hanging out with the homeless in the library. Around 2 on the 3rd day they called about 100 of us in, read off 40 names and dismissed everyone else. Why they couldn't do that the first day instead of wasting everyone's time I'll never know.

Actually just got a text from the lady that bought my old house that I got a summons sent there. I moved 5 years ago in May, address was changed shortly after. Get your shite together Baton Rouge

It wasn’t “lost in the mail” if you emailed them about it, dummy.

Can’t you just request online to postpone until another date? That’s what I did. Where I live you are able to postpone online twice in a year.
