I blame the people who work there and their shitty attitudes
The fast food joints in my town are pathetic. The service is shitty, the food is more than likely shitty and not cooked and prepared the right way, my orders are almost always wrong because the idiots in there don’t give a frick, and the employees and managers are rude and entitled as hell
There’s basically no point in going to fast food places anymore. Just not worth it IMO

Back then if you didn’t have your birthday party at McDonald’s you were considered poor

Times were just simpler back then. I never had a birthday party at McDonald's, but went to a few at one. They were fairly simple celebrations where you ate lunch and played on the playground. Birthday parties for kids today are geared more towards the parents impressing their friends than anything.
People also didn't eat out back then near as much as they do now, so trips to McDonald's were seen as a treat, at least in my family.

Burger King was dying long before that.
The meatless burger is actually a solid pivot for them to carve out some kind of niche

Kids shitting/pissing themselves in the ball pit. Trashy parents who don't supervise their kids and let them run amok while maybe buying $1-2 worth of food, if that.

The best bday party outside of the skating rink would be Pizza Hut where each kid makes their own personal pan pizza. That was fun as hell.

I always liked parties at Showbiz Pizza, but that's probably because I grew up relatively poor and mom only gave each $1 or $2 to get tokens for games when we'd go. At birthday parties, there'd be a table full of tokens. I'd usually play arcade games the whole time and miss the pizza and cake and singing.

Where did all the money come from these days? Everyone has much nicer cars and houses and spends 10x what we used to in restaurants. I don't understand what happened.

I forgot about the skating rink. Everyone remembers the hokey pokey.

Having a party at Mc D's in the 80s as a kid was the bomb, until you went outside to play and sat on the Hamburgular toy which has a surface temperature of 825 degrees...
Kids birthday parties these days are different. You have many other places to have them (inflatable zone places, etc). Lots of people are having them at home. Plus, very few people tend to invite their entire class anymore (or all the boys in the class / the girls in the class). Parties seem smaller now.

Haven’t ate that mess since all the racial stuff started. I don’t need anyone spitting in my food

Y’all may be interested In a YouTube channel called Company Man. He talks all about famous brands and especially ones that aren’t around anymore or are shadows of their former selves.
Show biz pizza specially I actually think was a sister company of Chuck E Cheese

Pretty sure there was a backlash and perhaps some liability issues with the fast food industry specifically marketing towards children. There was the idea that children were being indoctrinated into an unhealthy lifestyle through the marketing of these companies
so play places started disappearing, Ronald McDonald made less and less appearances, commercials featuring happy meals and toys started to disappear, Burger King kids club disappears. At the same time you started seeing items like apple slices and milk appear on the menus. Then you started seeing the fast food places change their fries and how they cooked them in order to reflect a more health conscious company. McDonald’s also got rid of those delicious dark meat nuggets
So In short I think the move to what you see now started with the health craze kick of the early 2000s and the shaming of these companies for contributing to the obesity epidemic in this country by creating customers at such a young age
