She was married 6 times before I was 17. I’ve given up on her, haven’t talked in 2 years.

I’d guess this has a lot to do with the rise in divorce rates. People weren’t inherently happier or better at picking spouses in the past; they just didn’t have the option to leave if they had no income or job prospects.

And divorce carried a stigma before that time.

You marry so you don’t have a bunch of poor bastard children running around screwing shite up. It’s the bureaucratization of sex.

I believe the majority of divorces happen because of selfish and self centered behavior. Baby boomers are, what can someone do for me, instead of, what can I do for someone else type of people. It’s some type of brainwashing they experienced in that era.

That's one thing that I've always respected about my dad. My mother cheated on him (although he was far from a perfect husband). No matter what, he would never say an unkind word about her in front of me or my siblings and still won't today.

You can blame the government teat for the high divorce rate. A woman doesn’t need a man any longer for a provider, plus there is no shame in being a single divorced mother on welfare anymore.

44 years here and we both agree nobody would have either one of us and she says she doesn’t have the patience to train a new husband. So I’m guessing we are kinda stuck with each other now.

Religious culture that is fading but still prevalent

The concept of Marriage was a child of religion

Animals/humans are not biologically engineered to be with one person their entire life. Basically trying to put a square peg in a round hole.

As the general society gradually evolves and advances and gets smarter and less religious as a whole, it makes sense that divorces would be higher, people will get married less, and those that do get married will get married at an older age level
