I would buy myself a lot of useless stuff.

Would build multiple homeless shelters for teens in my area. I had a homeless coalition training a couple of years ago that discussed how few resources there are for homeless teens here.
Would have some family I'd set up, quietly. Others, not so much.

Everyone that was my close friend or family member before I cam into that kind of money would be taken care of.
I would probably throw a good amount of money at the Local Boy Scouts (Not National) in the form of upgrading facilities and setting up a fund that will pay for any that wants to be a Scout regardless of ability to will be taken care of. The adults had their chance. I want to invest in the kids.

After taking care of my family and grandkids, I would fund the creation of a large rescue facility/farm for dogs.

Assuming I can accept the prize money without anyone knowing my name. I would not tell anyone but my awesome wife. I wouldn't even tell my kids. My wife and I would continue with our careers....maybe not stressing over the small things anymore like missed promotions or earning that extra bonus. Maybe we take a few more risks here and there by investing in local businesses or something. But that's it.
I'd create a spend thrift style trust for my kid and my nephews to pay for their college tuition, then eventually their first homes, and supplement their income later. They'll figure out that we did pretty well financially somehow, but they won't know the extent until after I'm gone. Also whatever my parents were short on retirement, I would cover it so they can enjoy it now and not work into their 70s.
St. Jude, my high school, and my church would be set for a long time. LSU would get something for their business school, but not more than a couple of mill. I'd donate some cash to build a few playgrounds in my hometown too - figure this could be done for a few hundred thousand.
I'd like to say I could live off the rest, but we all know the government will frick me harder than I've ever been fricked before. But I think I could do very well with just $7 million or so after taxes and donations. I don't need hundreds of millions.

I'd set up a charity that helped people keep their homes before they go to a tax sale or a tax debt buyer.
Ideally I would end property taxes but a half billion doesn't buy you that kind of sway, but you can help a lot of people keep their homes.

Personally, I'm going on a grocery store tour across America and looking for single parents or any parent that appears to be struggling and offering to pay for any food item they want/need plus giving a gift card worth $10,000...
Helping people with their groceries is truly helping, in my opinion. It helps put food on the table for families who are struggling.
Nice thread premise and response. Every little bit helps

We'd all like to be a life game changer. Nice idea might be to gift familiar working class peeps who've been holding down our 7-11s, Walgreens, Wal-Marts, Dollar stores without complaining...
Simple gesture -- a "Thank You" note, "Your help and kindness has been appreciated" -- a $20 bill inside would be a morale booster (and take care of a few lunches.

I'd fund a do-over for the last 2 seasons of Game of Thrones, and have Melisandre wake up from a dream sequence

Build new prisons for the overpopulation crisis

Open a homeless shelter that specializes in mental health
That surely already exists and probably doesn't really work well but it'd make me feel good that I'm at least trying to help the society
There's a program like that outside of Austin. They all have a miniature house surrounding a community center. The founder opened it in an unincorporated area because Austin community organizers didn't want it in the city.
I'd start a charity that bought houses at risk of foreclosure and sold them back to the owner-occupant.

My sister-in-law is piss poor raising a wheelchair bound daughter with bad cerebral palsy. It's beyond saddening. I'd make sure that child had multiple caretakers. My sister-in-law would be set with wealth. No one deserves it more than her. She's a true hero.

Well, Family first, but I have always said that I would share with my community. There are 391 postal customers in my zip code and a 2010 population of 627 individuals. If I had a spare $50,000,000 dollars then I could cut a check for about $125,000 to each postal address and watch the local economy boom.

I've told yall we foster a bunch of pets, so definitely I'd do something to support this more nationally.
Also, I'd like to help out disabled kids and their families.
Would also love to sink money into something that we could somehow cure things like cerebral palsy.
