build out some sort of self sustaining manufacturing business that i don't care if it makes money

I did some research years ago and was floored to find out that many wealthy folks do this strictly for the tax savings.

I knew a guy who made $$ hand over fist with a paper mill and built a high end golf course to do nothing but lower his tax burden.

Build a building , study program and mobile animal hospital at LSU focused on animal rescue in disaster situations like hurricane…

Build a large dog rescue center ( lots of places are limited on how many big dogs they can take.)

i'd need somebody with infinitely more business savvy than myself to run it, but it seems like a good idea that isn't just a handout. help people be employed, tax writeoff, help the community, and hopefully making money off it would be nice, but not a requirement.

Not a penny to anyone who didn't work.
How many zillion has been given away since WW II? Have we put a dent in poverty.
I may set up a fund to entice welfare recipients, folks with inherited diseases, drug addicts, and such to be neutered.

If you more of something subsidize it.

Drop $10M into a donor advised fund and then distribute all income generated in that account annually. I would make an annual gift to a national health organization (e.g. St Jude’s) and then travel the country making donations to smaller local charitable organizations.

I'd do way more than this. I would have a huge banquet on a private island and make a big dramatic announcement of the huge sums my loved ones were getting. I might even just hire the crews of Amazing Race/Survivor/etc. and have our own actual reality shows where people won a shitload.

Besides the St. Judes and other typical that everyone including me would donate too, I'd just build up my community. Buying up old buildings, fixing them up. Fresh paint on buildings, cutting grass, etc. All the shite a local place doesn't have the budget for, that's where I'd step in.

I would build a state of the art assisted living center for Dementia / Alzheimer's sufferers and staff it with WELL paid and qualified professionals who are called to provide great care.

St. Jude for sure.

Then I’d purchase some farmland, hire homeless people to work it, supply them with housing, transitional services, and social worker/medical support, and donate the produce to the needy.

I’d start a program that would house homeless and keep them clean from drugs/alcohol while they are employed and getting their life together.

You test positive/break rules you’re out.

Would help many people. Some would abuse it or it would be ineffective. But it would help many.

Invest it in a non profit trust paying say 5% annually means 25 million free cash every year

Blow it every year on media to get rid of far right and far left folks and get the country back to the middle and bring back the middle class.

endow my high school so it could stay in existence

find a way to help Roots of Music where local control is maintained, but where funding isn't a day to day effort...

donate to build a totally state of the art ROTC building with appropriate cyber defense training capabilities built in (along with a bunch of parking spaces)

get a M-4 Medium tank so we can memorialize LSU's first president....
