yeah I'm somewhat suspicious that football players were doing an entire cross country workout BEFORE practice

16 quarter day. Started out doing 4 in 80 sec, next 4 in 75, next 4 in 70. Last 4 were supposed to be under 70. Don't think we got under 70 on the last set.

The only team or sport I ever quit in my life was swimming in the 5th grade after two practices. Completely pointless masochism.

Practice of what? Jesus this has to be a cross country routine because no other sport would require 3.5 miles of running BEFORE a practice.

Football practice. I may have exaggerated how much time we practiced after the conditioning (with how fatigued my entire body was, it certainly felt like 2 hours). But I only wish I was exaggerating the actual workout. And it wasn't everyday, only 2 days out of the week, namely the days when we weren't lifting weights

Since this was summer, we weren't in pads. So practice was mainly going over plays, formations, proper technique, etc.

And btw, thanks for making me realize that was 3.5 miles worth of work. I've literally never done the math on that. If I did I probably would have quit

As I said, I only wish I was making that shite up. Along with the other shite we used to have to do.
During practice I literally used to scheme ways in my mind where I would murder him, so that the school would be forced to hire another coach.

I was a twisted tormented teenager apparently

That now makes a lot more sense tbh. And also isn’t terrible strategy by the coaches. Wear y’all down, THEN make you focus on technique.

Hearing my coach yell about form in the last 200m of an 800m always infuriated me. How about YOU do big arms, bitch

What I find amazing is how much of the anguish we felt during highschool conditioning workouts (meaning when we were in shape) was all mental. Our bodies could do it, we just didn’t want to.

Now I try to do the warm up I did in highschool and I need two Tylenol and a day off from the soreness.

Our FB coach called it Buffalo. We lined up by position group. WR/DB, RB/LB, QB/TE, DE and OT, then C/G and NT, and you started at one goal line. Sprint 10, jog 90. Once the group ahead of you got to about the 30, the next group started. When the last group crossed the goal line, the first group sprinted 20 and jogged 80. You did this until you were sprinting the full 100 yards. I was always fine through 60 yards. But that 70-100 sprints on the last four would have you gassed. And of course if anyone was slacking, the whole team had to repeat that section. First couple weeks of practice always seemed brutal. We'd end every practice with some sort of conditioning drill like this.

The other one was running the width of the field. Start at the goal line, sprint from one sideline to the other, then go up 5 yards and jog back across. Repeat until you did the entire field. You were basically running 2/3 of a mile with half being sprints.

1. the annual 10 mile run to kick off basketball season each year. Ten miles in shitty chuck taylor's hurt like a bitch.
2. Ten Suicide's to end practice timed. If the entire team didn't finish in time they didn't count.
3. Suicide's where you dove at each line instead of touching with your foot...those sucked.
