The golden age of arcades was actually in the early 80's when people were playing galaga, pacman, centipede, donkey kong, etc.

I know what you mean..
My friends and I use to play the piss out of this game on the Game Cube. When you onside kicked, the chances of the kick team getting the ball back were pretty high especially if you were the team losing.
Two friend's of mine, who are actually twin brothers, actually got into a brawl with each other over this. One would always onside kick and the other one thought it was "bitch ball" so the one who thought it was bitch ball was winning by 3 or 4 TDs in the 3rd quarter, but his brother recovered the ball like 2 or 3 times in a row and ended up winning the game..
It got heated and after they fought the brother who thought it was "bitch ball" left and took a controller so no one could play each other.. I just remember trying to calm him down even before the game.. I was telling him "dude, fight fire with fire, if he is onside kicking it every time then don't just automatically give him the ball by not doing an onside kick and he was all like "but that's bitch ball and I don't play like a bitch"..

I'm not as big into fighting games as I used to be, so on the flip side of this, I would much rather walk into an arcade and pay $1-$2 and play a few matches as opposed to paying $60 and wind up not liking the game.

Favorite game of all time. If I see a Galaga game out somewhere I am playing it and getting my name on the leaderboard. I don't care that the machines reset each night. Same thing with those basketball pop a shot games. I will play those until I get the high score.

I bet at the right location, if an arcade opens up.. That has a modern touch to it but also offers games that many people grew up playing.. It would do well.
There would have to be another type of attraction because I don't think an Arcade alone would attract people, but with the right combination it would work.

Barcadia has free arcade games from the 90's during the lunch hour.
it was very fun playing Mortal Kombat 2 and Time Crisis last week while waiting for our food.

Yeah, I remember when I was a kid my parents would talk about how indoor malls had taken over outdoor malls, but outdoor malls are definitely on a rise.
I wonder what is the reason for this trend? (outdoor malls). Indoor malls allow unwanted groups to sort of hang around throughout the mall and I can see a few other downsides, but I wonder if that actually plays a factor?r

And why did they get rid of the one in the union? Last year tailgating I told little P we would go to this awesome arcade and play video games only to find that they got rid of it in favor a bunch of euro-trash furniture and phone charging stations. frick you the union, frick you in the face.

There's a badass arcade in Dallas area called Freeplay that is nothing but old school arcade games. $10 cover and the games are free. Awesome bar with craft beer, mixed drinks etc. Nobody under 21 allowed after 9pm. This place is killing it too. Great concept.

That's an awesome concept. Hell, throw in some pool tables and add go-karts and a laser tag area and you could easily make serious bank.
