What does it mean to “sell your soul to the devil?”

What do you think constitutes the selling of your soul to the devil?
Growing up as kids, we always heard stories about people who sold their soul to the devil in rock and roll, and there was always this ominous mental picture of some person signing a contract in blood, or verbally having some conversation with the devil to sell their soul for something, usually fortune and fame, but I don’t think it’s that obvious or ceremonial. I think many people sell their souls without even recognizing that they’ve done so, and for significantly far less than fortune and fame, although it certainly can be.
I think people sell their souls all the time in what they are willing to surrender in exchange for what they most desire, be it fortune, fame, power, position, advantage, status, object we desire, human we desire, or you name it. They become the idols in our lives that we end up bowing down to and serving, surrendering all, and sacrificing anybody or any moral, principle, or value to both attain and retain possession of it. I think this is the root of the problems in the world today, and it’s found behind every inhumanity done to man in the world.
This is truly when we lose our own souls and end up not recognizing the person staring them in the mirror in the morning some times, and I believe that this dates back to the most human of conditions found in Adam and Eve who sacrificed everything for what they thought would bring them what they most desired, to be gods themselves.
What we are willing to give up and what we are not willing to give up is what determines what has our soul, wouldn’t you say?

I sold my soul one time when I crawled in bed with a fat girl when I was in college.

I've always thought that an interesting social experiment would be to run an ad in the paper offering to buy souls just to see how many people would call you up looking to make a deal.

That was your dignity you sacrificed, sir. Your soul is still intact.

It is a metaphor for those who make material, worldly things and pursuits their life's purpose, or false idols, so to speak, instead of dedicating their life and time to the service of others in the name of the beneficent and merciful most high God.
Amen.
Amen.

Talk to Hillary Clinton.
Of course, in the end, she’s gonna cheat Lucifer. Her loss in 2016 has eaten away at so much of her soul, there’ll hardly be anything left for him to claim.

It's not really selling their soul but every successful secular musician took satan's bag of gold

Cousin’s wife of 25 years with 4 kids met some hard leg moron millionaire and destroyed her family over it.
Now my cousin has moved on and so has the new guy, she wallows in self pity daily. Her kids don’t even like her.
This is selling your sole to the devil.
