$227. Verizon, 5 lines, unlimited data. No installment plan or contracts. I pay cash for the phones so they cant screw me on installment fees.

I pay $60/mo with Verizon all in. One line with unlimited talk and text and I think 4G of data.
The key is to limit your data use (most places have wifi and who wants to watch videos and read articles on a 3 inch screen anyway). Also there seems to be a pretty strong bimodal distribution to the hardware costs of the phones themselves. Just go with the cheaper (and just as effective) smartphone a step or two down and resist the urge to add $50 to your bill financing the latest iphone, droid, etc.
Imagine needing a new car and the only options are a brand new $50,000 BMW with all the bells and whistles or a $2000 used baseline Corolla or Civic. Your average middle class prole would be a fool to waste all of his income financing the BMW, yet somehow the phone industry has convinced modern America to do just this.

$51 a month. It's only a flip phone with unlimited text but I want a phone to be a phone. Nothing more, nothing less. I don't want to turn into a phone addict that I see daily. No regrets. With a computer at home and at work, why do I need one in my pocket 24/7. Looking at some of these bills, people wonder why they are living check to check.

I am seriously considering getting away from TWC Spectrum. Is your internet fast?

There are several posters I'd pay good money to see throttled.
You're not one of them, though.
