I usually drink me a pot of coffee and do a walkaround, stir my gumbo, then I start the late night shift work thread if nobody else has

I work for a large plant in BR in admin role. They all top out between 38-42 per hour in our area. Obviously supervisors make more. Base salary is normally in the 80k range with massive overtime for the hourly guys. Some guys make 130k plus but they are working a ton. As far as duties go, it depends not only on the plant but the unit so no answer will be the same and the goes for within the same plant(different units).

Collect truck nutz, say the word "baw" in every sentence, put their boots on desks, dip, eat, frick around on TD, and watch computer/tv screens.

I had an uncle who worked on the construction crew that built the Monsanto Luling plant. This was in the early '50s, when he just returned from combat in the Korean War. When the plant started up production, he was hired to work at the plant. He worked there until the early '90s, retiring after working there nearly 40 years. He made a great living in his many years there. He had always participated in any employee stock purchasing program, etc. The day he retired, his stock, pension proceeds, etc, were worth a little over $1,000,000.
Not bad for a Cajun who didn't even complete high school.

Sit around and bitch all day about the contractors that do the real work in their plants. However, these contractors probably make more money (especially if they are welders) and have more jacked up F250's and way bigger truck nutz.

And then complain non-stop about 'politics' in other situations.
It's laughable.

I’m an operator, we don’t physically do much but have to monitor (babysit) equipment levels, temperatures, flow rates etc.
Somtimes issues snowball and all hell brakes lose, this can turn a good day into a being on your feet turning valves or making program adjustments for 12 hours straight.
Money wise, a fully qualified operator (3-4 years in) will have a base salary of 90-100k with a 5-10k bonus. Schedule is 4 days one week and 3 days the following week, 12 hours shifts. You can basically sign up for as much overtime as you want but its rarely forced overtime.
Couple of the guys I work with signed up for about 700 hours of overtime last year and made just over $150k. So that’s about 58 extra shifts over the course of a year.
Not unlikely for someone to make $170k+ if they don’t mind signing up for a ton of overtime.
And no, I do not know one person at my plant that has truck nuts. There is a couple F250’s in the parking lot though.

Engineer that works in Ops checking in.
1. They eat well on nights. Like really well.
2. Sure there is a lot of hurry up and wait, but they don't get paid sit on their arse, they get paid for the day they can't take a moment to sit on their arse.
3. There are more than a couple F-250's in the parking lot. That stereotype is true.

Know several that broke 200k this year. Think they were 1300+ hrs of OT though. To each their own. One let me know he had already passed 50k the first part of this month.
Average first year will be right at or just below 100k.
After that you will work to 130k-160k depending on specific role and how much OT is required. I'd say 20% average above 170k.
Granted, all of this is site dependent. Some sites the guys will struggle to make 100k due to low base wage and lack of overtime available.
