My guess is that it's usually the point in ones life where they have accumulated the wealth to make a dbag move that is notable, before that all moves were subtual due to lack of expendable funds. And wanting to do something drastic before they die, while they are still healthy enough to do it

I'm not there yet, but I think it has to do with expendable income. Most young people don't have any money. You get to be 40 and you got things paid off and nothing to do with pocket cash so you get a little frivolous and then take it from there...

Wake up at 5 AM
Commute 45 minutes to get to 57k job
Work all day
Get home to 1.5k sf house at 6 PM
Fat wife hasn't started dinner because the kids are puking and shitting all over the dirty house
Fat wide makes kids chicken nuggets and Mac and cheese, you eat shitty leftovers
Put kids to bed
Wife is drunk (she's been drinking white Zinfandel since 2 PM) and picks a fight
You sleep on the couch and repeat the next four days

That's what causes a midlife crisis.

In descending order:

1. Less sex than you'd hoped for.

2. Less money than you'd hoped for.

3. Less time off than you'd hope for.

That's about it. If anyone has satisfactory, not necessarily an abundance of all of the above, they would not be complaining or having "issues". I guarantee it.

I think that it is just a point in life where reality hits home that your life is going by you a lot faster than you ever thought it would...

by that point, you have been deeply embedded in the daily grind for a decade or two. you see your parents starting to get up in age and realize that the life that you have built for yourself is one that can be taken away from you in a blink...

I think it has to do with not being able to do the things you were once able to do and it makes you think about just how much longer you have left to live so you want to live it up.

What you said frog. I love my life now. frick all these people hating. Saint that shite about lack of poon is not true. There is always poon available you just gotta find the least crazy ones. Hell at this age you can always just flash cash and get a younger woman. I am just enjoying the ride now that all my kids are pretty independent.

I don't believe anyone in our age group had a clue how fricked up life would be at this point. I mean growing I thought at this stage I would be a millionaire and getting ready to sail into the sunset on my yacht. The fairy tale life everyone imagined has been very illusive for a lot of us. I just live to be happy one day at a time.

I'm forty and I understand the crisis feelings.. People feel that they are on the backend and usually aren't where they felt they would be.. They see more despair than happiness and worry about all the things you only have a passing thought to in your youth.. When faced with these realities, you can take a few different paths.. I'm in the corner of life has been great for me, I've been able to make a wonderful life with family and friends that allow me an incredible level of happiness.. Of course I didn't accomplish certain things in my younger days but frick it..

This as well. When you are 20-21... early 20s it seems like you have forever to do the things you want to do. Then all of a sudden you find yourself at a certain age then realize that at one time, you thought you would have done this or completed that by the time you are at the age you are.

I don't mean it like that. Its just that time goes by faster when you get older. When you are 18, 20 years seems like a long time, but when you are 35-40 20 years doesn't seems nearly as long as it once did.

I always assumed I had all the time in the world to get married and have kids. Now a days I just look at the calendar and laugh.
