The people on the left are half of the zipper merge equation, therefore included when I describe drivers that are bad at zipper merging.

Person getting onto the highway/interstate needs to be aggressive and find their slot, person on the left already on the highway/interstate needs to let them in when appropriate.

It really isn't hard. It is common sense.

Unfortunately people don't have much common sense on the roads.

12 at Airline in both directions.

Cloverleaf interchanges work great under low volume. During rush hour? Cluster. frick.

That interchange gridlocks the entirety of I-12 every single day.

This is where everyone does wrong. The vast majority get over too early, then they all get pissed at those who don't.

the zipper should only occur where the highway runs out. I have no qualms about driving to that spot and merging in, and when I see others do the same, I applaud them.

On the interstate, yeah, drive like hell and merge in. People on the interstate are a bit more forgiving.

It's the bumpkins on the surface streets that like to block lanes and don't allow room for zippering.

Convenience stores on every corner where left turning motorists block the turning lane. See southbound college at corporate.

Yeah. Most states/municipalities have “access control” guidelines that would not allow for this bc it impedes traffic flow. Here you can put a driveway just about wherever you want even if it’s right next to the intersection.

The rush hour good Samaritan idiot on Jefferson Hwy. who allows other cars in parking lots and side streets to turn out left when the light turns green up ahead and it takes a full light cycle for jack wagon to make it across two lanes and then hangs out blocking the last lane because they will not turn into the center turn lane.

Well, that isn't how it works.

They are supposed to pull up to the line and wait until it turns green.

They teach that you should be able to see the entire next car over your hood when stopped.

You should be able to see their rear tires contacting the ground which should give plenty of space once the light turns green for all to simultaneously accelerate.

bullshite. allow as many into the turning lane as possible so they aren't jutted out obstructing straight moving traffic.

Layout of the I-10 interstate system placing the bridge in downtown Baton Rouge, making a T intersection as soon as it crosses the river.

If you’re the first car, the light turns green the second you pass the sensor. Doesn’t matter if you’re going 5mph or 50.

If you aren’t the first car, if you self pace behind the car in front of you by 3 or so seconds, you also will trigger the green light as soon as you pass the sensor. This, just as before, is true if you’re going 5mph or 50. Meaning that you, as the second car if properly self paced, also don’t have to stop at the pace light.

It’s a PACE light. Not. STOP light.

Yeah. Cops would make a killing if they actually started enforcing the law that requires you to turn onto the most inside lane.

Every ramp metering article I’ve read says otherwise. Along with the signs on the ramp that say “Stop here on red”.
