People turning left off of Perkins onto college when they cannot clear the intersection.
God forbid they wait til the next light so that Perkins traffic can actually proceed as it's supposed to.

Every ramp metering article I’ve read says otherwise. Along with the signs on the ramp that say “Stop here on red”.
Except the sensor goes off before you reach the line you’re supposed to stop at, hence why if you’re properly paced or the first car, the light turns geeen BEFORE you reach the “stop” line.
Meaning....
You
Do
Not
fricking
Stop

The sensor is within 20’ of the stop line. If you’re arguing for a rolling stop. Sure.
If you’re saying hit the on ramp at 50+ you’re defeating the purpose of the meter. I get on everyday at Essen/12 westbound and the people that run the meter light cause more problems merging with those heading 10 east than those who actually follow the instructions.

Aka self pace from the car in front of you.

Perfectly acceptable if you’re the first car.

“beerJeep” is arguing traffic law. I’m siding with golfer.

It's not designed for that. If people could self pace then the fricking metered ramps wouldn't be needed to begin with.

If you’re self paced by 3 or so seconds the light is green before you hit the stop line. Aka you don’t need to stop.
And you’re right, if people would drive right and self pace, they wouldn’t have to install lights to force people to. But people would rather tailgate and not get up to speed on on ramps so they install them

Two pages and no mention of turning left onto Burbank from E. Boyd?

It absolutely blows my mind to see people trying to make left turns in impossible situations. If it’s rush hour and you’re turning left from a parking lot on a heavily traveled street and in order to do so, you have to find an open window from traffic both coming and going, you could sit there for 30 minutes waiting for a miracle in which both sides are clear. Or, you could simply take a right and make a U turn and be going the direction you want to go in under 5 minutes.

Amen. And half of the time they could use another exit out of the same parking lot and use a light to turn left.....but nope, they are going to try to turn left across 6 lanes of traffic in rush hour without a light.

Building that new fricking ramp from 110 to Washington that I’ve seen used three times since it’s opened.

You should be able to see their rear tires contacting the ground which should give plenty of space once the light turns green for all to simultaneously accelerate.
Let me guess. You went to drivers ed here in BR? This “see the tires touching the ground” BS is exactly what I am talking about. That leaves at least a full car length between cars. More if you are driving a truck or SUV. It leads to a ton of problems. And your contention that everyone will “accelerate simultaneously” off of the light changing is stupid as hell. You don’t key off the light, you key off the car ahead of you. Go off of the light and you will rear end twenty people a day who are on their phones when the light turns green.
Pull up to the car ahead. When he moves, the reaction time will result in a car length safety space once you start moving.

It isn't, though. The point is to create a proper gap in the traffic to effectively zipper and have you paced for the speed of the interstate.
The light isn't timed the same. It's based on the conditions.
For example, this morning the I-10 East on ramp from I-12 West was backed up past the on ramp at Essen. The metered light held each car for a good 10 to 15 seconds regardless of if you were first or not as to allow for more cars on I-12 to merge into the exit lane shared with the on-ramp/merge.
The lead vehicle this morning actually blew through the light as you're suggesting and it never changed from red to green and all he did was cause more trouble at the merge.
