Traffic speed cams, that shoot your plate and send a ticket to you via mail. Almost as affective as emission sticker checkpoints.

In Arlington VA it is apparently customary to stop for any pedestrian within half a block of a crosswalk. Slam on the brakes if necessary, and wait wait wait for said ped to enter said crosswalk.

The Middle TN area:
Never honking. I've literally watched cars sit quietly behind an entire green light because they didn't want to honk at the texting idiot at the front to go. Idiot then looks up right at the last second and is the only one to pass the light.
allowing cars to merge/stopping to let cars turn. Drivers will literally stop dead in their tracks in the middle of traffic to let you make a turn or merge in. It's great that they are so considerate, but don't stop traffic unexpectedly.

LoL. The response of people who are full of shite. "It's the law!!!" It's not a law and just because some PE Teacher running a Drivers Ed class said so doesn't mean jack shite.

-Crossing lanes into oncoming traffic on two lanes roads is OK as long as you are driving under the influence or otherwise distracted.
-Passing against double yellow lines, on the right-hand shoulder, or any other damn way that's possible is perfectly acceptable, if it allows you to gain a one-car-in-line advantage before the next intersection, stop light, traffic slow-down, etc.
-If an impediment such as a bike rider, a parked vehicle, a slowed vehicle, or road work is impeding your lane, it is your responsibility to not wait for oncoming traffic in the opposite lane to clear before proceeding but to speed head-on into said oncoming traffic and race around the obstruction as fast as possible.

BR drivers are fairly slow. They slam brakes for yellow lights, then don't want to move when it turns green. These habits, combined with traffic lights which are synchronized to ensure that everyone stops at every intersection, make BR the most frustrating city I've ever been in for driving.

DFW suburbs with the "roundabout" intersection where there's no stop sign or light just a circle and four streets coming together.
Biggest cluster F##K I've ever seen, the bricks in the middle are knock over every week where some a hole just drives straight.

Here's some foreign places I've been with weirdness:
The Middle East stay 19 kilometers above speed limit and you'll never get a ticket...if there is no camera, there is no law
Korea Doesn't care about speed limits either. Nor pedestrians, lanes are optional.
Japan If you aren't a courteous driver, they'll arrest you.
Thailand They play king of the road...the bigger the vehicle, the more right of way...So it goes Trucks, Vans, then Cars, then Tuktuks, then motorcycles (w/ 4 people on them), THEN PEDESTRIANS. Do not step on a road if you value life...I personally saw about 6 maimed pedestrians and 3 maimed motorcycle riders there.
UK Everyone seems to be driving fast, so you drive fast...then get a ticket.
Italy If a cop pulls you over, you pull over immediately. They carry flippin' machine guns and will shoot the vehicle up. Also, lanes are very optional.
I've been other places, but these things pop out in my mind from when I was spending significant time there.

Alaska Frost heaves...leave the low riders at home. Avoid the Glenn hwy in the Winter and the Summer. (Traffic, Blue hairs and Moose) Avoid the Seward Hwy in the summer (Blue hairs and those sheep fall on the road).

I was in Billings, MT over the Summer and all the newer intersections on the west side are roundabouts... they are awesome. Never had to sit at a red light, never had to wait long to enter the roundabout.
Everyone there seemed to be competent using them, though. And obviously less volume than DFW area.
